One in a Million shot?

Had an interesting thing happen to me on the course Sunday...

I was playing ridges at sand creek in Jordan Minnesota and we pulled up to the 14th hole which is a 298 par 4 with a large creek running through the middle of the hole forcing a lay up due to the trees surrounding. So I teed off with my 5 iron hit it on the toe but hit it straight and left me about 120 yards to the flag.

So I grabbed my GW and choked down a bit and put a good swing and I launched the ball high up. As I am doing the "look at the ball- look at the flag" head dance my friends are telling me "oh its heading right at it" and it was looking like it might get in there close

My dreams of a kick in were birdie flashing before my eyes, but then something weird happens....

As the ball comes down I watched the ball hit the top of the flag bounce 4 ft up into the air and land into the rough onto a small mound for a down hill lie.

I was stunned

Now this ball didn't hit the side of the flag and the flag pole didn't bend at all. This ball landed directly on top of the pin so perfectly that the ball bounced straight up as if it had hit the cart path and it never hit the ground.

I could not believe it! The flag had denied my ball like Dikembe Mutombo. I could see the flag twitch slightly like a waving finger as if to say "not in my house"

2 of my friends were as shocked as I was. My 3rd friend ( who I was beating by about 2 strokes) says " well sucks to suck" and sticks his shot to 3 feet

Long story short I couldn't get up and down and I ended up bogeying the hole and my friend and up pulling the heck out of his 3 footer (sweet revenge)

I just thought I would share my strange story and see if this has happened to any one else

Attached is a picture of the hole from the tee box.

Hit your 3W right onto the green next time
I dont know if you can tell from the picture but that green is pretty elevated and if you land short of the green there is a decent chance your ball may roll down to the water. Also it would take a pretty good poke with the 3 wood to get it over the water and land it on the green since everything long, short or right would likely roll down a hill to the previous hole where its heavily wooded on that side so if you did hit it right you would either A have an impossible shot in the woods up a hill or you would have to hit a flop from the fairway over some tall trees

I've seen a guy hit the flag before and the ball get whipped off the green. I had a crazy shot a few weeks ago. I had 70 yards left from the rough bladed my 60 on a line over the green hits a bolder on the back side, pops up in the air and back towards the hole. Ended up dropping the putt for 3 lol.

I had that happen to me a couple years ago one evening.. I hit a weak drive on the dog-leg left 9th and had about 165-170 in directly into the wind. I hit my 5 hybrid I used to have in the bag, it is shafted with an oban revenge and it hits it to the moon I can literally hit it over things I can't with an 8 iron...
I hit it and it was going right at it and had to have been coming straight down at the time. I heard a lound clank and I say the ball bounce up in the air. It bounced several yards long of the green.

Guess I had it coming as about a year before that I literally holed out from about 100 on a blind over a tree up-hill shot. This tree on top of the hill is about impossible to get over as close as I was. I opened my 52 and swung about as hard as I could under control and barely cleared the tree. A couple guys up top holler that is right at it "be good" and such. I hear a loud clank as it landed in the hole. It came in at that perfect angle where it landed in and stayed in. didn't even touch the lip.

My buddy tells this story better, but here goes...

Golf friend of ours has a rabbit's foot lodged firmly into his @$$. Playing a squirrelly double dog-leg par 5. He hits his drive through the dog-leg and it ricochets off the stone wall back into the fairway bunker. He hits 3 iron out of the bunker and pull-hooks it into the trees. It bounces off one of the billion trees and ends up next to the cart path and in view of the green. He skulls the approach shot over the green and into the junk behind. It's all down hill on the back of this green into rocks, trees, brush etc. and his ball is somehow sitting up. he has to hit a flop shot out of this sandy/dirty/rocky lie, over the cart path, over the sand trap to a short-sided pin on a green that slopes towards the fairway (away from him).

Yes. He skulls the lob wedge directly into the flag and the ball drops into the cup. Possibly 4 of the worst shots we've seen him hit, all in a row, and he walks away with a birdie. Sometimes that one-in-a-million is bad... sometimes it works out. Karma!

A bag of left-handed junk.

One of the guys playing with me, nearly hits the S word, yes SHANK, and it is heading fast for the woods, balls hits at the base of the tree, off the cart path, ends up 6 foot from the hole.

Yeah, like he planned that one!

Last weekend in the club championship I was playing a par four downhill but into a stiff breeze. Hit a weak drive down the left side that stayed in the rough and sat down. Tried to hit a four iron but caught it heavy and it stayed in the rough. Hit an eight iron that wasn't quite a sh--k , but stayed left and ended up just left of a greenside bunker with the green sloping away and very fast. I then hit a perfect pitch that just carried the bunker into the fringe, bounced once, rolled and hit the pin and dropped in for a par. One of the guys in my group was genuinely pissed. This was the guy who was slamming his driver into the ground on the 2nd tee after he missed a 10 footer for birdie on the first hole. It wasn't a fun day.

Of course it all evened out. Two holes later, the head of my hybrid (909H) flew off on my tee shot. The clubhead went dead straight in front me - about 40 yards. The ball only traveled about 10-15 feet further than the clubhead and I ended up making a triple.

I am still laughing as I post this. Epic.

I had something happen that has to have odds in the same realm of this. I was playing a Tour-Yellow Srixon Z-Star XV #3(this is important) I pushed a drive out to the right, about 2" from OB - Set up for my approach from a pretty bad lie, so I go down hard to get the ball and take a pretty large divot. Shot was half way decent so I was tracing it to the green. Per my usual routine I walk forward to get my Divot and replace it and low-and-behold My divot uncovered a previously plugged TOUR YELLOW Z-STAR XV #3. My playing partner was dumbfounded, I had to call him over to see it so someone would believe me! What the hell are the odds!!!

Ha ha this might be equally as unlucky as hitting the flag, the real question is how did that 3rd shot go

Yeah I mean I am not sure I deserved it since I wasn't playing well that day. Had the ball landed with in a foot like it should have I would have had my 3rd birdie of the day on a day where I had 0 pars and still ended up shooting a 96

I flew the green trying to muscle it over a tree in front of me, Bogey on the 2nd easiest hole on the course... *Sigh*.
