Womens Sports Observations - Post Solheim Cup

Curious if my observations are consistent with your experiences.

 

Women are 'ultra competitive'. Misc observations in no particular order

 

- The SC rally cries and emotions

- Moms - worse behavior than dads at sporting jr. sporting events

- Moms - pushing their kids to extremes

- Girls sports (including cheerleading) in general have tougher schedule requirements and parent participation

- Moms seem to thrive on this stuff

 

Note: My wife is near psycho about the kids sports.

Note2: I live near a school yard for organized sports. I drive up the street and know immediately whether is boys or girls based on the number of cars parked on the street. Cheerleading will have the most cars.

In Brasil the soccer dads get into fist fights and start doing brasilian jiu jitsu on each other. The moms....not so much. Just call each other a bearded clam and have shouting matches at worst.

[/quote]Much of my experience comes from the Hockey world. Junior played 10 years at the AA level.

I don't just mean the confrontational approach in the stands as some of the men do. My wife drove my son 10 times worse than I did. The women's moods were highly driven by the success/failure of the team.

I think the worst examples were a few of the men - but as a group I think the women were much more competitive.

You get pushy parents in any sport. At my club on Saturday morning there's a guy who brings his two kids at 7:30am, continuously making them do putting drills for hours, then hitting the range, regardless of weather. The worst thing is that he plays off 20 and has no clue what he's talking about. You can tell that the kids absolutely hate it and despise their father, but week after week they keep coming. I'm sure they will poison him eventually.

Worst sport in the UK for the behaviour that you mention is without a doubt football (soccer). Fights between parents on the touchline is not an uncommon occurrence. Cricket and tennis can get pretty heated too.

No...because then people would bring guns and blow each other away. We are sophisticated come on!

That was a quote given to me by the wife of the President of our golf club when attempting to describe why the Women's Golf Association folded up shop. They tried to do it right and it was pretty successful until they actually got around to having a tournament. Things went completely sideways. Oh, it was Match Play.

We also had a Women's Lounge and the club ended up changing that over from a bar/lounge to a meeting room. Turns out the Women didn't care anything about hanging out with each other. They just used the main lounge with everyone else.

I don't understand it. But it also doesn't affect me much.

When my son played Rep hockey in Ontario the Mom's were way worse than the Dad's.

Women? Yes. They are generally more social in work environments. Women like being around other people where men are often more loners. Women in a work environment can be terribly cruel to each other.

The one person mention "toddlers & tiaras." I don't watch TV but I know what he is talking about and it is sick. However, cheerleading and gymnastics are almost as bad because they girls can get hurt pretty badly doing both of them. Cheerleading accidents can be pretty bad. I am not crazy about football either because a kid can wrfeck a knee or worse.

Much of this stuff with kids is a racket. I hear people where their entire life is running their kids to endless after school activities. They have no life. Meanwhile, a lot of people in this economy are just trying to keep a roof over their head and food on the table.

My husband used to coach little league ice hockey, then he became a referee, & he found that the Moms were the biggest problems in both jobs.

I work in Banking and have overwelmingly worked with women for 25 years, I also raised a son and a daughter.

Men when they have issues usually work them out and just agree to not like each other or in my son's case with his buddies growing up have a quick dust up and then it would be over.

The women I work with and the small sample size of my daughter and her so called friends say they can be absolutely nasty to each other for extended periods of time. They are far more jealous of each other than men and hold grudges.

I meant also that since they actually physically carry the child, maybe there is a greater attachment than with males? Maybe the mothers have a biological link to the child that makes them more aggressive when they feel their child and a part of them is failing or threatened?

Or maybe society accepts that males, even fathers, are more individually judged?

There was an article a couple of years ago in one of the golf magazines (can't remember which one or who wrote it...sorry) that basically compared the locker rooms of the PGA and LPGA tour after a round

If a guy came in after a real good round he was getting high fives and congratulations from almost everybody...and it was genuine

When a lady would come in after a good round the atmosphere was the exact opposite...the other players were much more catty and resentful towards the player who just posted the number
