I've seen estimates that most PGA players would hold handicaps around +4 to +6. So maybe I shouldve said eight, not nine.

And on a typical PGA layout (maybe 76 rating, 140 slope), a 3 hcp will shoot low 80s on a good day.
+4 is like D1 college level. I know several, and they aren't anywhere close to the PGA Tour. +6 is getting closer, but I'd say that's on the low end of the spectrum to actually be out on the PGA Tour. Definitely not winning anything at +6.

A 3 cap shooting in the 80's PERIOD would be a very good day on a Tour set up. Low 80's is very very doubtful in my mind. I don't think a 3 cap would have any idea what to do with some of those pin positions and greens....

Not on the range, but today someone tried to show off his distance on GolfWRX by showing us a video of him hitting driver on a Golfsmith launch monitor.
I've never had a swing speed above 108, and I've hit balls 330 on those things.
But did you pull them 100yrds off line? If you can cut off a dog-leg left with that swing, it will be a 375yrd net drive

Not heard but seen. I'm a pretty good ball striker but rather inconsistent. At the range, no one knows where you're aiming so it's hard to tell who is spraying the ball and who is hitting accurate shots. After about a dozen shots I noticed a small group of people were standing behind me. They seemed to be watching me. Then I realized that I was wearing this PGA tour T-shirt with a giant PGA logo on the back of it. They must have assumed I was good.
I'm a 3 handicap and my distance and accuracy off the tee is above tour average. My downfall is my short game and putting
Let me get this straight: you're a better ballstriker than most PGA Tour players

But, given your 3 hcp, your short game costs you around 9 strokes per round relative to them?
Where do you get 9 strokes? Rory leads in scoring average at 68, which would be a difference of 7, but an average professional's scoring average is in the low 70's which would be between 3-5 strokes. Since I'm a 3 handicap (which is an average) I've shot lower, including two sub-par rounds. Anyone who watches a decent amount of golf knows that professionals save an incredible amount of strokes around the green through their short games and putting. Those two areas happen to be what I have trouble with and what is preventing me from becoming a scratch golfer. Hitting a chip is considerably different than hitting a full iron or driver off the tee. I never said I was the best ball striker who ever lived, but I do believe off the tee, I'm going to hit more fairways than the 'average' pro. As a generalization, #100 on tour this year only hit the fairway 60% of time.

I was nearing the end of my bucket and finishing with some sand wedges to a small green 30 yards away. Johnny Longdrive and his girlfriend take the stall behind me and he proceeds to pull out the driver immediately and tell her to watch him closely, as he is about to hit it out to the 300 yard sign. He proceeds to hit about 5 balls, none going further than 180 and slicing wildly right. She seems impressed, clearly not understanding the concept of yards vs. feet or the importance of directional control. I actually chuckled out loud and I presume he heard me because he actually asked, "So you think you can hit it farther?" I turned and said, "I can give it a try. What club do you want me to use?" "Driver" was his response, clearly thinking my 30 yard sand wedge were indicative of my driving ability. I said ok, tee'd one up and hit a smooth high draw about 305. I turned around and looked at him, he's clearly dumbfounded, and then I look at his girlfriend and she starts dying from laughter. I put my driver away, said have a good night and walked away.

Translation:
Brlong23 hit it 230 and looked like a stud plowing it 50 yards past this guy. I'm surprised and a little dissapointed he did'nt say he popped it 350 yds!

The thing about bragging in golf Brlong23 is there is always someone else that can make you look really foolish. You should just be happy you can hit it 230 and not try to make fun of others. A few of us here would give you 4-5 strokes and still enjoy slapping you around all over the golf course so just be happy with what you got and stop trying to make others look bad.
Honestly you came off like a ******-bag jerk-off with your little tale!!!!!

Hey lets make a beginner look bad,,,yeah man your really cool,,,,,NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Parker,

Had you read my story, you'd note that the guy challenged me by asking if I thought I could do better. I was more than happy to stay out of it until that point. Secondly, if I wanted to hit it 230, I would have pulled my 4 iron. Unlike some of the people on these forums, I'm not here to impress people or lie about what I can do on the golf course. I'm a 3 handicap and my distance and accuracy off the tee is above tour average. My downfall is my short game and putting, hence me hitting an ungodly amount of chips and putts lately, in an effort to get down to scratch. Quite frankly, I took an easy swing at the drive I mentioned. I could have actually taken a full blown swing and flew the 300 yard sign, but what's the point? And just incase you're thinking I'm full of it, here's a recent video of me demo'ing the G30...without shoes, so I had very little hip rotation. My swing speed usually sits between 119 - 121. (https://www.youtube....h?v=m9JNcaZEj_M)

It had nothing to do with making him look bad. I was simply sharing a story that I, and apparently several others found humorous. To me, you sound bitter.

I am just wonderings how many tour players will hit it 325 with accuracy if the ball is going that far left. I actually am a girl ands hit the covert driver over 300 on a golfsmith monitor ands it was just off the center lines. I can get up to 100 swing speed , but rarely try. At a 100 with 1.5 smash factor , unless it is rolling 50 yards, i am nots hitting it over 300.

To pile on as well , was the video beings saved for a *rainy day* to post on here ?

Yup his above tour accuracy was displayed with the snap hook....lol.

All the indoor monitors are 'juiced'.
My results in real life are nowhere close to what shows up on the monitor.

The difference between a 3 handicap and a tour pro is actually closer to 10-12 strokes, although most tour pros don't have official handicaps. Also, handicaps are not averages. They are a measure of potential. A handicap is a measure of your 10 best scores out of 20 in relation to the slope/rating. Tour players are playing on courses rated in the 75-78 range and 144-150 slope range. In tournament conditions. This is hugely different from anything we experience in day to day play at the local course.

Not all are juiced and my results are very similar-wise in the Foresight as outdoors. The only thing I find that differs is the dispersion or ball flight...

It looked likes just a pull more thans a snap hook , but pulls of any kinds always go longer on monitors for me as well. I actually lose yards hitting drivers indoors. At times they only carry 180 , ands my instructor says a lot of his better players just cannots accurately get yardages with woods indoors.

I thought I've heard everything until tonight. A guy was hitting what I thought was a R1 with fubuki. He told his buddies it was a clone but it was so good the company had to get tmag's permission. Most clones according to him did not need permission because TMAG is not too worried they will out sale the real deal. Lots more comic gold followed.

My index is 26 but I'm a great putter
These always crack me up, either its a blatant lie or these people have a golf IQ of zero. If I were that great of a putter and couldn't get my index down I'd practice with a 9i and wedges exclusively and play every shot with those clubs-with great putting I could probably still get down to an 85 playing only 150yd shots and shorter.

My index is 1.5 right now I believe, but as you can see I haven't changed it, its not an accurate assessment I feel. Love some of these comments, gives me stuff to do during in-between classes haha. People get a little ahead of themselves and get excited, need to go play a course setup at a "Tour" level. Did that once when I was lucky enough to get out before a event and was shooting great (not over 75 for months), and shot an 85 playing well haha. Could easily had been under at a "normal course" and conditions. Thank you for the entertainment :D

Had an awkward moment the other day....

So there is this older guy on the range he is a regular. Had a bunch of kids hitting and the Ball picker drives by the line, the old man walks up to the picker and loads a basket of balls. The kid stops and says "I'll take one too" jokingly. The old man say, "I am the Mayor of this golf range, smart @$$" The kid the responds with "jeez I was just joking" and then a bunch of muttering ensues between the 2 of them....I swear the old man wanted to fight the kid.... stupid

Anyways I see the older man all the time now, walking around like he IS the mayor of the golf range, cigar in hand and trying to give instructions to everyone and anyone..... creepy looking dude........

Nope.

Exactice808,
Saw a guy behaving similarly at Newtown on Saturday. Chuckled to myself when thought about how that behavior would go over on weeknight when several WRX members are there. This same guy "walked the line" spewing horrible swing advice to anyone who would listen. His opening statement to several people was "What do you do?"(presumably for employment)I had only a few left to hit when he got to my far right position on the range and he started up, my response without ever looking up " I mind my own business, you should try it sometime". Needless to say, I was able to complete practice in peace.
