I get annoyed at people that run after their balls they just topped 15' feet across the front of the tee area.

I saw this 20 something asian guy set up and start hitting balls with his driver. Real smooth. Real consistent. Pop. Pop. Not much power but going about 225. Older gent next stall over proceeds to give him a few tips on rotation to generate more power. Asian guy kind of thanks him, I heard a "ah, ya" "thank you" or something. Older gent leaves. Asian guy puts driver away. Pulls out another driver, stands on the other side of the ball and starts busting them 280. Guy was warming up left-handed.

Had a guy in a muscle tee and filled up with tattoos walk up with just a driver and start spraying balls all over the place and making remarks of 300+ when everyone could clearly see they were landing before the 225 marker. Guys gets full of himself and starts asking if anyone wants to try and out drive him, couple older guys bite and he out drives them by 5-10 yards. Guy looks at me and says "you want a try at it bro" (I hate being called bro by people I don't know) So I crack a little smile and say "yeah I'll give it a shot". Grab my 5 wood and walk over to his mat, guy looks at me and says "You might want to grab your driver bro" to which I reply "Well I want to give you a chance". He tees one up and cracks out a "this F**kin kid" and hits one moderately straight about 240. I drop a ball on his mat and proceed to stripe my 5 wood around 260, walk back to my mat and start hitting again. The previous older guys bust out some laughs, muscle head remarks that his swing was off today and packs up and heads home.

I'm curious why you mentioned he was Asian? You obviously think it adds something to the story, otherwise you would just say "I saw this 20-something guy".... I just don't see what.

Favorite GolfWRX thread. I like many others that play golf seriously never hit off the mats unless it is only to warm up and I have no other choice. I went down to the grass section one day and learned a quick lesson...never trust anyone...no matter what you tell yourself...don't ever setup even lateral to some people hitting...had a guy buzz me one day and I was straight behind him...completely baffled me how he hit a ball that direction.

My 3 year old son likes to go to range with me. Last week, I took him and had a fella behind me hitting even before we got there. Let me remind everyone, my son is 3, loves golf and hitting balls, and he's loud. So of course he's giving a play by play on his shots, my shots, and everyone else's shots. The guy behind me told his friend, but loud enough for me to hear, "this is why children shouldn't be allowed at a driving range or golf course bc I can't concentrate and hit the ball." I kindly turned around and told him I had watched him hit 25 balls before I came over here and he'd only hit 2 decent so I don't think my son was the problem with his game. He then called me a sob to which I challenged him and his friend to a match against me and my son for $100 a hole. They left. That's probably the worst thing I've ever heard bc I love seeing kids playing golf.
Another good one I've heard "they must inject the balls with something bc I'm at least 40 yards longer with my ball."

OMG, anybody that can't concentrate on the range with all the stuff going on in the first place, let alone kids, will NEVER be a good golfer. You have people walking behind you, talking, laughing, etc. It is the only "acceptable" place in golf to talk during someone's swing. I chuckle every time I see kid's antics on the range and wish I could be like them and not care how I hit the ball. They all just want to hit the ball.
I would have loved to see that too. I love it when boisterous little kids show up. I love talking the game with them it is maybe the most fun conversation about golf you can have. they see the game so differently.

Had this happen on Sunday. My 3 year old nephew's first time at the golf range. He would cheer with glee when he would dribble one a few feet in front of him and go "WOW!" when he sees other peoples balls fly in the air. The guy a couple stalls down looked at me and shook his head. I ignore it and let him be a miserable hack that is.

We went to the chipping area so he can putt around a bit. There were only 2 others there. Well one person who decides to hog the 100 range balls they leave out for people to use starts staring us down. Dude. It is Sunday morning. The kid is 3. Let him try and knock a few putts in for 10 minutes. Go take a break from chili dipping and skulling 90 out of the 100 balls you took away from the other guys who want to hit a few chips. At that point I just said, "Hey bud, let's go play mini golf. That guy over there isn't a very nice person." "Yeah! Mini golf! How come that guy isn't nice to us?" "Well, I guess it is because he isn't very good at golf bud." LOL!

Wow...didn't realize people had bad attitudes and require complete silence even on the driving/chipping range. People wonder why golf is a slowly dying sport...well these are good examples. I don't care if people talk on the golf course....just don't try and talk to me when I start my routine...that is all I care about...but on the practice range who cares! Practice...we talking bout practice...come on man!

Im hitting balls on the far left side of the range as a right handed player. This young guy is next to me and an older gentleman just beyond him walks up and starts to hit. They are both right in front of me. The young guy had been hitting his driver and spraying it all over the range and short before the the older guy arrived. After a bit the younger guy starts talking to the older guy about how he should hit his driver.

It was funny because the first thing that hit my mind was.....oh man, here goes a WRX'ER story!!! So now im smiling to myself and step back of the shot area and take a break, I dont wanna miss any of this conversation. The kid explains about hip rotation and how to follow through and a few other things. The older guy is listening and shaking his head. Then the kid makes the fatal error. He says, Here, let me show you. He takes a mighty swing and hits it off the toe and sends onto the 5th fairway. After a few more really bad swings the older guy says, Thanks for the tips but I think i'll just stick to my way which was a laser straight drive about 200 down the middle.

I thought to myself, classic, and went back to hitting.

Handicap 7.7

I went to the course with my 3 year old and my 1.5 year old daughters to putt around and had the complete opposite experience. they were running around having a blast hitting ball all over the place. I admit being a little nervous. There were two older gentlemen there that you could tell had been long time golfing buddies have a putting contest around the green and I over heard them saying there was some kind of minimal bet on the line for each hole won.

They completely stopped what they were doing, started talking to my oldest asking her how she liked playing golf, the other went to his bag and grabbed out two or three pink srixon balls and gave them to here and said he wanted a signed one back when she went pro. Of course she really had no idea what that meant. It was awesome and they were beaming with smiles watching these two little girls enjoy terrible putting and running around chasing the pink golf balls they had given them, I walked up when we were leaving made my daughters shake their hands and say thank you for letting them play golf with them. i then said sorry for interrupting their game and bet, and also thank you for their patients and kindness to my kids.

They both stated that it was more fun playing with my girls than being focused on their game. So there is hope with some out there.

"f*ckYou, im not dropping whatever I'm doing to help you move a couch, you have a 15year old boy who can move it for you" I'm jus laughing so hard i had to stop in the middle of my swing. then you hear him tell his student "don't ever get F&*kin married" and then back to his conversation "i can tell whatever my student whatever i wanna tell him, you don't be screaming at me cause your fat and lazy to move the couch your own dam* self"

Heard a guy brag about his "tour issued" RBZ driver that his buddy got for him from the Ryder Cup here in Chicago. He said his friend had it custom built on the tour van at the Ryder Cup. I took a look at it and called him out on it when I didn't see a T-serial number or the + on the hosel...Needless to say he was one unhappy man to be called out on his BS.

Just goes to show, don't try to debate a WRX'er on Tour Issued gear

I despise bullcrap as much is the next guy in but seriously, what did you accomplish here? Did you make this guy feel better, knowing he got a counterfeit? Did you feel better proving your technical superiority? I don't think you needed to interject yourself into the conversation unless these were friends of yours and you were actually trying to help. If it were me, I would a smile instead and say "I'm sure you got your 1500 dollars worth. That's a beautiful stick." He feels great and you can feel as quietly smug as you like.

Only my opinion, of course.

I go to a range at a private course right after work, which is usually at the same time that one of the local high school teams practices there. I've heard anything and everything out there, especially lots of rich kid problems that sound ridiculous to normal people. I think my favorite thing I heard was a kid who claimed that he broke 30 for 9. He had an ok swing for a teenager, but I'd question if he could break 40 for 9. That sub-30 is a round I'd love to have seen.

#1 "Hey buddy, what am I doing wrong here? " - After half a basket of shanks, two of which stayed inside the range it would be quicker to list what you're doing right.

#2 To his buddy in the bay "you've got more god given talent than Tiger.....Tiger couldn't get the club back to the ball from that position at the top" - I had to laugh and give him a thumbs up.

I swear, I actually heard this on Saturday at the range.

Some guy was having a conversation with the guy next to him. They're talking about several things: mostly gambling and work. He then says that he was a professional golfer about 12 years ago and that he's now decided to get back into it. And then, he say's this:

"I could go out a beat Tiger Woods right now."

And he was dead serious.

The guy he's talking to says, "Well, you may have actually been able to beat him today the way he played."

THAT, was funny.

Not exactly a range story, but in high school one year during golf tryouts, some kid on the first tee sliced the ball some 80 yards from the championship course over the trees onto the executive 9's first hole. The coach standing there perplexed just casually said, "You might want to hit a provisional." Everyone was trying super hard to suppress their laughter.

The younger/older contributes to the story. Increase the irony (or whatever word you want to use) of the situation. Wouldn't be as funny of a story if it was a kid giving advice to an older person.

I'm not kidding, I was just curious. It's not racist, it just stuck out as a detail that was completely irrelevant and he repeated it, so I was wondering if there was a reason. Maybe there's a stereotype where he's from that Asians are short hitters (hence further increasing the irony).
We have a guy that shows up occasionally at the public range near our house that we affectionately call “English Bob.”
He looks likes the character from the movie, “Unforgiven.”

Anyway, he targets a novice and then moves in to offer advice. He ends up hitting half of the guy’s bucket “demonstrating” the proper golf swing. I must admit he can hit the ball but his explanation of the swing is a bit unusual. He speaks only of shaft angle. He has one of the phlegmy coughs and wears those patterned pants that resemble pajamas.
This guy has apparently found a way to never pay for range balls.
Yes he has.

I would be willing to bet English Bob hasn't paid for a bucket of balls in 5 years, and has destroyed the hopes and dreams of at least 20 novice golfers. I recall one time he was working with (working over) a guy and his girlfriend. They were lost when it came to golf. Bob suggested, "maybe we should get another bucket and work on the mid irons?" The guy ran into the counter and came out a few minutes later proudly stating, "I just got the 5 token special."

This was at a demo day.
Customer-" Looking for some irons and a driver".
Demo Rep.- Ok, what are you playing with currently?
Customer- My irons are Ram Tours (80's) and I have a 975D driver. I just cannot find anything better than what I have.

I find humor in that he is still playing this set up. They were great clubs during their time period..
