Need ideas for a New Putter- Graduation present to myself

I am graduating this Fall with my Bachlors in nursing. It has taken me 6.5 years, but i am finally done. I had to take over a year off for personal reasons, but that is not important for this. I have always said i would get myself an all new set when i graduated from college, but frankly I don't want to dish out 3K on a set, and I am really happy with my clubs. I just thought a new putter would be really nice. I need some suggestions from you guys. I currently have an old YES! callie i got for $25 and i love the way it feels. My putting speed has been really good this year, but my alignment has been off. I know it is mostly practice, but my inner Ho wants something new.

 

Here are my only specifics. It has to be unique or atleast not a routine off the rack putter everyone has, Either Anser or #9 style head (not a mallet man), and a steel face.

 

I have been thinking the all black #9, Redwood Anser in Black Satin, or custom from bettinardi, cameron, or TP mills. I like the Seemore putters a lot for some reason.

 

I know i've gotta roll what works, but i am just wanting something nice to celebrate finishing up school. Price is not a huge concern at this point.

I would definitely be going with something custom. Go check out the machine thread in the putter section. Dave, Chris and the team over there can do pretty much anything you like. I don't own one myself, but if you look through the pictures, the attention to detail looks second to none.

I also had a YES callie , and for fathers day my wife wanted to get me a pretty nice gift, she knew I had my eye on a SC newport 2.5 and its been magic since it hit my hands. So thats my vote.

though I would check out Bettinardi if I was in the market for an addition to the family. She games the Yes Callie now...

If you are looking for an Anser style of head, not off the rack, and unique, add "Byron Morgan" to your list of putters. Check out the forum Puttertalk and you will see many of his creations.

You can design the putter from the ground up at a reasonable cost. Fit and finish rival any on the market today. Best of all you can choose head weight, stampings, loft, lie, head material, finish, neck, offset, shaft, grip and you will not see another one anywhere like the one Byron hand builds for you.

Byron would be my choice, love mine. Also check out LaMont Mann (Mannkrafted), Machine, Kari Lajosi, and others. Lots of great custom builder with prices that start right around high end off the rack...no good reason not to go with one of the custom guys. $350 will get you a Byron 006/007 and they are great sticks.

I agree. If money isn't a major issue, there are some beautiful custom, one of a kind ones that pop up here on the BST and can be found on other bettinardi websites. Or, if you really want to treat yourself and since you appear to live in Indiana, drive over to Studio B in Illinois and go nuts. If maybe something more reasonably priced, look at the studio stock or BB putters. I will tell you that I have never run into someone who plays the same SS11 as me, especially with my Cheesehead Betti headcover. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the FIT face feels like butter.

Congrats on graduating. If you are really looking for something unique go custom for sure. If not, the Odyssey Protype Black Series and the Redwood Series like you mentioned are both fantastics choices. I play a Redwood myself and I love it.

I finally settled on a putter that I have used the last 2 years. I had a putter fitting to evaluate my stroke technique. I prefer face ballanced putter and have pretty much used mallets, but preferred the look of a blade style. Got the Ping Anser X - face balanced blade like putter. Putting woes solved and confidence restored.

I suggest having your putting style evaluated and getting fit for the one club you will use twice as much as any other, each and every round.

Wow just great putters...I hate to be in your shoes right now. Since $$$ is not much of a concern, I would suggest one of each! Don't forget SC del mar buttonback is pretty nice also.

My recommendation will be to save some money. Set aside a little bit money each month till you have enough. Definitely don't do it if you are buying with parents' money.

Now, if your parents are loaded or you are a self-made successful entrepreneur, ignore above. Then, go nuts. Buy a Scotty Cameron Garage, which starts at 10 grand.

How about a Yamada, not something you see everyday or in stores and everyone who has them, raves about them? Might be a little tough to get a custom one since Obama was given one from the PM of Japan not to long ago and I heard orders have spiked since.

Even if you don't end up with one, may I suggest trying the Ping putter Ap on your current gamer and have it analyze your putting stroke at a golf store. I did, and it determined that straight back, straight through is my putting style, recommended 1/2" longer and a little flatter on the lie angle than I had been playing. I still suck at putting, but I could see improvements playing the specs it recommended. Distance control being the biggest improvement for me.

I only mention it as you are talking about Anser style (slight arc with its typical hosel) and a #9 style heel shafted (very strong arc style putter.)
It would be a shame to drop coin on a really nice putter than didn't really fit what you need.

I got say the Nardi custom I got through BettinardiLtd is just what I wanted down to the very last detail, its finally wrestled the bag spot off my previous "the one" and Jimmy is just great to work with, flip side of the same coin although, I've never used him, other big Ho'ss say the same of Nick @ BettinardiTourStock.

Congrats! I concur with others. If the budget permits, go custom. I have a custom Low Tide FIN on order that will be mine and mine alone. Something like that would be a great flat stick and commemorative piece for your great accomplishment.

A second vote for Yamada - mine cost no more than an off the shelf scotty but I much prefer the feel, the look and would say the quality is better. There is also nobody else at my club that has one, whereas there are Scotty's everywhere. Congrats on the graduation

Those are some sweet putters. I guess i was not thinking when i typed this out. I was not concerned about price, but i am not going to spend more than 400 or 500 MAX on a putter. the byron morgan putters look awesome

For $400-500 you can get a killer putter from almost any maker listed here. You can't get crazy with options or damascus or GSS or anything, but you can get a super solid custom putter for that price range. Enjoy the hunt, having just gone through ordering my first custom putter a couple months ago (the Byron in profile picture) I can say it's an incredibly fun process and one I would highly recommend embarking on for anyone having the desire and means to do so. So fun to look at all the amazing options out there and find the one makers style who speaks to you the most and looks like what you want to walk up with to that slippery 10' birdie putt on the course.

I'd definitely go custom so the stampings can properly reflect your great achievement! I'm not sure what slighter runs for a job, but he might be more in your price range. You can't go wrong with him, BM, Lamont, etc...
