After a full season of these being out here, what is the verdict? Are they that much better than other graphite shafts such as SteelFiber, Aldila VS Proto, Ozik etc? Are they really worth the high cost? Please share your Recoil experiences. Thanks.
I played the 125g tour proto's since last fall-(712 AP2). loved them, hard to go back to steel. They were far superior for me than NV 105 (too boardy too low launching), and Ozik 125g programs (too spinny, too high). I sold the set, and have been testing some lighter varieties as I want something closer to 100grams. So I demo'd on course, and on range, Epon & Royal Collection 6 irons using the following shafts: Recoil 95, Fuji MCI 100, Fuji MCI 80, ACCRA 105 Hybrex. I liked both the MCI and Recoil in the lighter weights, but the Accra Hybrex blew them out of the water...feel control distance trajectory and dispersion. So I ordered a new set with Accra's, I'm not in love with the two color coded graph&steel graphics but I can get used to it for the performance and feel. ALL of the above mentioned shafts felt looked and performed better than Steel Fiber 95/110cw....those are fine shafts, but lack feel vs the above mentioned.

Lastly, if you're wondering how I was able to field test $1000 worth of demo irons and shafts...call Ken @ VictoryCustomGolf. Sign up for his VIP loyalty program.
You send him a credit card deposit of $250 and he builds/sends a box of high end demo gear. you demo, return within 7 days, or forward to the next person in the demo program, and your deposit is credited toward your final purchase order. In my opinion this is the only way to demo and try hi end custom shaft/club upgrades.
I wound up ordering the 714/AP2 Accra Hybrex custom build through Ken. ETA November 8th.
Cheers!

I just got a set of pings with 110's in them tuesday. I only have 9 holes in with them the same day they showed up but I can tell you the feel is way better than other graphite iron shafts i have gave a go over the years (have not used steelfiber shafts though). I was really surprised how much I liked them in the wedges. been playing project x 6.0 in my ansers this summer and had no issues with them just wanted to give the recoils run. I will post again after the weekend and a couple more rounds on them. I will say the package is at least a club longer than my other pings but they are g25 heads not anser.
What flex did you go with? f4 or F5? I emailed UST and they suggested F5. I play PXi 6.0 too
I went F4. I have been a bit in between 5.5 and 6.0 after back surgery a couple years ago and these seem to fit right in there (for me anyway). I would say the flight is just about the same as the pxi's i played early this spring, a little higher than my no flighted std. project x. both are 6.0. The feel is closer to the pxi over std. px as well but I would not say the same as these have a softer feel. I am using them in a cast g25 head and the pxi and px were in forged heads. cant imagine how soft these would feel in my anser heads.

It the most accurate shaft I have ever played, driver irons or hybrids included. Great feel, no sting on cold days, ball goes exactly where you hit it and mishits are minimal. I got mine in J40 PC's. As a ex ctaper user I could not be happier. Yea they launch higher(that is ok by me) than the ctapers but I never get that I cant hit these shafts cause my swing sucks today feeling. A very easy to hit shaft that does everything better.

What flex were you in with C-Tapers and what are you in now with the Recoils? I'm interested in trying these out as well, but curious as to the flex. I'm in S+ C-Taper now, though I think they might be slightly on the too stiff side, if anything.

Steelfiber vs Recoil vs Accra Hybrex, that's the $10 question for me. Played Steelfiber 110's most of last season and liked them a lot, this season it's Hybrex in a set of Mizzy 825 Pro's and WOW even better. The Recoils are the best iron shaft I have ever played. Been playing them for the past 2 months. My previous set was J40's with Steelfibers. IMO the Recoils are far better. KBS like smooth feel for my swing. The steelfibers are OK but lack feel for me. I think they both give a nice mid/high flight. A big difference for me was the pain relief. I have bad finger and wrist pain when I hit too many balls and I need to play graphite. The Recoils were perfect and virtually eliminated the issue. The steelfibers were just OK in that regard. A little better than steel but not as good as the Recoils in eliminating the swelling and pain

I spoke with Robert Ennis at the UST headquarters in Dallas. He was very helpful in choosing the right shaft. I even sent him a video of my swing along with all the specifics. He recommended the 110s F4 tipped one inch in my irons and the 125 F4 soft stepped in my wedges. I didn't try another combination, but these seem to be working for me. My driver swing speed is 105 mph. I think my 6 iron ss is around 88 mph, but this may be wrong.

I also had elbow surgery in December 2012 for tendonitis, so I was very wary about swinging the club this year. While I still have some minor elbow issues, I got through the season playing the most rounds I have ever played; somewhere around 30 rounds.

Yes at 43yrs old and a life long golfer not to mention living in a cool climate I'm a HUGE advocate of modern multi-material shafts. Like many I've experimented with many of the graphite iron shaft offerings over the hears with mixed results. Some good shots but on average a lot of high flyers, inconsistent and hard to control. Not to mention sub-par feel due to the massive amount of graphite used to create a heavier iron shaft. These newer shafts are TOTALLY different, very consistant with excellent dispersion and feel. Note not always the easiest builds on planet earth so I would definitely consider a master builder for projects like this. When I first switched to Steelfibers I was battling horrible tennis elbow and truly just wanted some relief, fully expecting to convert back to steel once my issues died down. Once I converted however I almost emediately realized these shafts where very different, none of the common recurring issues associated to graphite, couldn't believe it! Next stop I read about Accra's Hybrex shafts, the HO in me was intregued and I was looking to purchase a new set of irons anyway so dialed for dollars and BAM at my doorstep. Honestly, didn't expect them to be any if at all better than my beloved Steelfibers but low and behold same basic characteristics with one added advantage, these bad momma's are LONG! No hard numbers to share sorry however if I ventured a guess I would say comparing the two my Hybrex initially launch very similar and fly forever but definitely create less spin, I've said this before these will the choice of the C-Taper crowd, having said that they don't necessarily flight much different than Steelfibers but DEFINITELY spin less. Needless to say I could play any of these shafts and not skip a trick, next up Recoils in my S55's, I will be interested to see if a pure modern graphite shaft can stack up to these hybrid models, time will tell. My only issue with the Hybrex model and a lot of Accra shafts for that matter is the overall finish, tends to not be as durable as others I've tried HOWEVER they are a great shaft manufacturer that more folks should consider...BB

Yes. I was spending more time talking about the great feel and flight but did forget how accurate they are. It took me a couple holes to loosen up (trying to make the most of the daylight here in pa) but hit my fist pure dead center club face with a 4 iron on #3 and let out a wow out loud. next hole a short par 3, hit a 9 dead over the top of the flag (thought it was going to catch it) then it was game on the rest of the round just taking dead aim. The set up being longer than what i was playing with I was past most everything even after clubing down a bit, and I can't say for sure how much of that was the shaft unless i play them in my other sticks.

I have hit them (hit them at the PGA Show) and thought they performed and felt great. I like the fact that they are ascending shaft weights as well. I would have to play with them for a few rounds to better formulate an opinion. But so far, so good.

OK,,I'm ready to pull the trigger on a set of Recoil prototypes. I called 3 different UST dealers off the UST website. 2 of the three weren't even sure what a Recoil shaft is. I'm currently in MD for 2 more weeks, but will be back in Orlando area around Nov 4. Can anyone recommend a club maker that knows their stuff. I fear there are a lot of weekend/ part time club makers around and I don't wish to re shaft with Recoils with semi- pros or amateurs as far as club making goes. Sorry if this request offends anyone,,but I don't have money to burn or experiment with. Thanks.

Are you looking to get fit or have them built? I know a few guys on this board went directly to Bobby Enis (I think that's his last name) from UST and not only got recommendations from him, but a few have sent him their sets and he installed them for them. It would be a small additional cost I'm sure vs paying a local shop, but you can be darn certain the guy doing the work knows what he's doing!

If you're serious about wanting it done right the first time, that's the way to do it.

I comfortably play the S+ C-Tapers. If you can play those, and load them adequately, you should be a cinch for F5's. However, you should talk to Bobby before you do anything....

Recoil Protos are only sold by UST TourSPX dealers, not the regular UST dealers, look for a TourSPX dealer in your area if you have one nearby.

I did call the tour spx dealers listed on UST's site. Two of them didn't seem to know what I was asking for. Not a reassuring first conversation if you understand what I mean.

I played ctaper stiff soft stepped. I use the Recoil protos 125 F4. The transition was very easy. I also talked to Bobby Ennis on the phone briefly told him I was a little hesitant to go with the 110. As with lighter shafts tend to get quick with my hands, I like a heavier shaft for my tempo, my usual driver swing is about 95-100mph. So far so good glad I went with the 125 and the F4 do not feel either too stiff or too whippy. It is a great shaft expensive yes but well worth it, especially for those 50 degree mornings with no warm up sessions. LOL.

My ss is about 5 mph slower than yours but we share the same issue. Played RP Rifles for almost 20 years and am still tentative with the lighter PXI shaft. I'm thinking 110s in stiff or maybe 125s in regular.

At those speeds I bet the 125 in regular would be great. Word to the wise if you send them to UST, think about putting your grip of preference on there. I think all I paid for was the shafts and shipping, no build charge and he offered the UST grips at no charge. I figured what the hell and tried them but they are the opposite of tacky, if you like anything with some grip like the Multi compounds don't waste your time and just get them installed from the get go.

Thanks to everyone for the great info in this thread. I have been considering both Recoil and Steelfiber. As always. I'll get fit and see what works beat for me, but this is cery educational.

The most accurate graphite shaft I have ever hit. I have played graphite a few years now and always missed the consistent flight and accuracy of steel but the recoil has all that plus a smooth feel. I played the Project X graphite in my S56 they were OK but not as good as the recoil. I ordered a G25 3 iron just to try the shaft before the S55 come out and it is my favorite club to hit don't even use my hybrid anymore. I will be getting the 55 with the recoil. It is the real deal.

I have Miura baby blades. I started with KBS tours then C tapers then Steel fiber I95 and now recoil prototype F5. The recoils have been the best shafts to date. The steel fibers do lack feel. They never felt like you sweet spotted one. The recoils are 125. I need heavier shaft. Ball flight can be flighted easily for me but the normal flight is higher. Bobby Ennis installed mine for me and has put shafts in hybrids and fairway woods for me. He is a good guy and can build to any spec for you. The recoils are more expensive but they are in all my irons and wedges. He put them in my SCOR wedges and they are great( 51 55 59). I have no regrets. Tracey
