I think the problem is there is no way to get objective feedback on how well this or that teacher has helped people, and certainly not in this environment. How do you handicap teachers in this environment? I don't think the community can do this, like with drivers or whatever.

But there are always people who don't want to discuss differences but instead want to prove they are 'right' who spend their energy demeaning rather than offering constructive ideas. These are often people who are failing to gather support for their ideas or persona.. These people should be quickly banned. Golfwrx should protect the obviously credible instructors who contribute substance. With no real handicap process possible, they need to play the role of expert and protect their asset.

This is not a democracy, and they should err on the side of protecting valuable contributors.
Agreed
there is no way to determine who is a valuable contributor. the only way golfwrx could do this is to only alllow sponsers to post. who is to say that one person is more valuable that another. Maybe Happygolfer's way of saying something helps me more than monte.

there should just be a way of limiting the threads someone can start, or the number of posts they can make.

Some other forums I belong to have a "reputation" meter next to people's usernames. This way other forum members can upvote them when they make a positive contribution and downvote when they start acting like a dunce. Might be a nice addition around here.
golfwrx has it already. you can "like" when someone says something useful.

I have an idea, why not take a poll to find out how and who actually teaches golf as a profession to live people and gets paid for it? That would be an easy way to differentiate teaching pros from good intentioned amateurs.
firstly people can lie. unless you want people to send their paperwork into golfwrx. Secondly, why does that distinction matter. i would say most professional teachers are bad and very few are good. pretty sure sblack and lv2hack dont teach as a profession. should they not be able to post becasue of that?

Everybody wants the house given away for free and thats not how it is in this game. If only WRX would figure out for me which instructors ideas will help my game and ban all others and ensure that those guys provide many free videos with ALL the REAL info.
It takes an awful lot of sacrifice to learn meaningful stuff in this game. Expecting to be spoon fed this hard fought info for free is a funny concept.
The best advice I could give anybody would be to take personal responsibility and make some tough decisions. From there it's all up to you. Cheap/free info is cheap free info.
No substitute for commitment and personal responsibility.

I like the ranking meter system. I like the dislike idea. The like feature isn't used enough here. Not enough users know about it.

I don't think it's about guys who teach vs guys who don't. I think it's more about guys who teach or are knowledgeable on the subject, vs guys who don't have a clue.

Comments like hooks have more top spin or downhill putts break less than uphill putts deserve a dislike.

If this site was my asset, I'd take a pretty active role as the expert and would be more active in banning the pain in the butts. People can disagree but most of the rancor comes from the tone of dismissive arrogance and is personal rather than about ideas. I'd be a dictator about this and would build a culture that played within these rules.

IV I agree with you. My point is that most confrontation here comes from people who don't know who they're attempting to discredit or dismiss. Maybe alot of flare ups would be avoided if posters understood who they were talking to. Most of the best advice I've been given has come from good players, not instructors.

I don't mind arguing and confusing or contradictory stuff. That's golf. It's the arrogance that kills me and the condescending tone that comes the way of every successful teacher here by a few who seem to me to be jealous.

If mods choose to delete this so be it, but feel this needs to be said- what happened to this section of the forum? I recall a point in the not too distant past when differing ideas on instuction and instructors could be discussed with civilty and without personal insults or even passive aggressive behavior. Now it seems that members and even those who profess to want to help improve their games seem to have forgotten how to conduct themselves with a modicum of decorum and choose to air differences in public manner and even resort to personal insults when philosophy is questioned, even if the questioning is lacking class in manner of approach. Hope this improves and class, respect, and civility upon which site was founded returns post haste before many here decide to go elsewhere.

When someone does what sblack did they should be called out. Its the same as calling a penalty on a playing partner.

I saw your comments in the "thread that vanished". The world may be a beautiful place, but sometimes people do ugly things. You can't make a website all gumdrops and lollipops. That's waging war with society.

But after the dust settles...thats when you realize what really happened. Too many great discussions get cut short now. Eventually people will learn, or they will agree to disagree based on the information presented.

And while on the topic I send my deepest condolences to Steven black. My disputes with his technical opinion were sincere. But my banter on his situation was me just being silly. I won't comment any further on the situation and I think he will learn a lot from his experiences.

In conclusion I know mods are obligated to protect the name of golfwrx...but sometimes its okay to let the chips fall where they may. If the wolves attack somebody then why pull guns on the wolves? There's a valid series of events that brought on the attack so let it run its course.

I'm pretty new around here, been following Manzella for a few years so I've seen all this unfold over there just like it did here (Jeffy, Dariuz, Lia, Steve T On and On...) Anyway I got kind of sucked in over here mainly from Sblack's posts. He is a stand up guy and I've been exchanging PM's with him and he goes way out of his way to help. Felt like kind of a kick in the stomach when his thread was pulled. One think I'm sure of is Steven is not in this for a "quick buck". He just seems like a helpful dude who is obsessed with the golf swing.
being a standup guy and making mistakes aren't completely foreign concepts. I dont think he's a bad guy at all. But he made a mistake. He's not on trial. Brandel didn't give him an "F". The truth popped up and enough people saw it. I've done worse. But im better now because of it. Failure feeds the path to perfection

That was a pretty unique thing, and not the core issue, imo. The core thing is more chronic, and can be traced always to a handful of people. The people change over time, but the dynamic is the same.

Thank you Ping10 guy. The thing is is this democracy or socialism?
democracy, being free.....a smart golfer who sees a teacher, one on one...willing and because he has the money.
socialism, just like sheep....hit the internet to become a single figure golfer, ends up on WRX, believes all....always a hack.
...now if it was me, there are only 2 guys to read here...Monte and Jim.

The world is too complicated to label thing by race, political crap, social class, etc. Its just giving the illusion of understanding.

Having said that, there are some rights we should have here that are intermittently taken away. Selective lockings of all sorts of stuff. There is no pattern or standard...but there is rules?

FCC hatespeech online regs will come out in a year or so. Then it will be really restricted

I've been member of some sites that managed this way and this is more annoying than the banter.

I think people need to be more respectful in general but also more thoughtful (prior to chiming in) and have thicker skins.

I would agree with this statement. The irony is the people that are the most sensitive are the provocateurs.

Maybe this is why KSU produces the most Rhodes scholars per capita.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

But people who 'need to be more respectful' typically get that feedback from the community and ignore it.

I would agree there. I'm a big believer in management of the idea that 'you are what you tolerate'

I don't know how many cancerous all star performers I've worked with that should have been gone long before their time came.
