When someone does what sblack did they should be called out. Its the same as calling a penalty on a playing partner.

I saw your comments in the "thread that vanished". The world may be a beautiful place, but sometimes people do ugly things. You can't make a website all gumdrops and lollipops. That's waging war with society.

But after the dust settles...thats when you realize what really happened. Too many great discussions get cut short now. Eventually people will learn, or they will agree to disagree based on the information presented.

And while on the topic I send my deepest condolences to Steven black. My disputes with his technical opinion were sincere. But my banter on his situation was me just being silly. I won't comment any further on the situation and I think he will learn a lot from his experiences.

In conclusion I know mods are obligated to protect the name of golfwrx...but sometimes its okay to let the chips fall where they may. If the wolves attack somebody then why pull guns on the wolves? There's a valid series of events that brought on the attack so let it run its course.
At no point in this or any other thread did I try to convince anyone to not have freedom of opinion, nor did I imply this forum or anywhere else is perfect, rather for us to have discretion in tone and manner of expression. When any type of confrontation occurs, we can either choose to escalate the incident, deal with it in a calm and professional manner commensurate with the level of threat , or realize that the other party is no threat and walk away from baiting behavior that serves no useful purpose knowing we did the correct thing...

ith you. My point is that most confrontation here comes from people who don't know who they're attempting to discredit or dismiss. Maybe alot of flare ups would be avoided if posters understood who they were talking to. Most of the best advice I've been given has come from good players, not instructors.

The world is too complicated to label thing by race, political crap, social class, etc. Its just giving the illusion of understanding.

Having said that, there are some rights we should have here that are intermittently taken away. Selective lockings of all sorts of stuff. There is no pattern or standard...but there is rules?

FCC hatespeech online regs will come out in a year or so. Then it will be really restricted

If the founding fathers saw that intent they'd puke. The problems are not always solved with more lawyers and more laws but thats what we do anyways.
No matter.
Personally my opinion is that this forum is quite well run. Thats why I have commented. It's like people now feel entitled to some kind of free perfection of info online though and that bugs me. It's the internet get over it people. I like it for the variety if the site was just a bunch of close minded one way for us people I'd leave thats no fun. Again vive la difference

I would agree there. I'm a big believer in management of the idea that 'you are what you tolerate'

I don't know how many cancerous all star performers I've worked with that should have been gone long before their time came.
There is also a reason for there to be a reasonable turnover of instructors here. Its just that if I were golfwrx, I'd want this turnover to be from the fact that their experience was tremendous for them, and now it's time to move on, rather than it's too much a pain to deal with people just stirring the pot because they can't find their own power or audience. But I'd want the reputation to be where up and coming great teachers want to spend some time here, because it's a great win for everyone.

There 2 kinds of reinforcement of behavior - positive and negative interactions. No interaction is the least rewarding. But its very hard to do with a pot stirrer in a public forum.

Some other forums I belong to have a "reputation" meter next to people's usernames. This way other forum members can upvote them when they make a positive contribution and downvote when they start acting like a dunce. Might be a nice addition around here.

The "Like" button is an indicator of something useful but many times, it's more of a popularity contest among groups of friends or one of the many gangs. Votes of confidence or "Likes" might be groupie driven as well...:)

I feel if you have a vote up button, there ought to be a vote down button as well...

I don't think the community can evaluate teachers on a forum. too many ways to rig the system, too many variables. I think its golfwrx's role to be the evaluator of this section. It's not doing a bad job but I'd be harsher with nincompoops

At the end of the day, we have the same goal. We should take a page from the Mythbustes:

“We seriously irritate each other and don’t want to spend any time together,” Hyneman says. “And yet we have a profound respect for the partnership. We’re like a couple of dogs with a rag. That conflict is an effective tool in teasing apart that problem we’re trying to solve. We can wrestle with a problem until something breaks free.”

Haven't been a member here for too long but have seen a bunch of certified and quality instructors run off this site which is a shame. I think it comes down to these guys putting their time, effort, and most importantly their name out for the rest of us to see while the endless droves of trolls hiding behind aliases and anonymity relentlessly attack until the good guys have had enough. I've seen message boards where your real name is required to be your username and don't recall seeing the volatility that is rampant all too often here. People seem to forget what brought them here to begin with is golf.
Obviously reading comprehension and spelling are not your strongest areas as you have so admirably demonstrated here by citing a perceived slight in a topic that was closed due to negativity you fostered. The individual mashing cartrydge (cartilage) quoted my earlier post in thread(not me), the only wine (whine) is coming from you, and only complaint about the mods is also coming from your posts as actually asked mods to monitor or close this thread as necessary well before you started spewing your vitriol to avoid any negativity as that was not my intention. I guess in your world, that makes me a hypocrite although that certainly does not fit any reasonable definition I can find. Last point, while looking up that definition perhaps you should look up another word, 'analogy' as the usage of reference about wolves did not even come close to a rational thought.

Not talking teacher to teacher. Talking more poster to poster. I agree we won't find the best instructor but IMO the problems haven't been an instructor vs an instructor debate. It's been more of an instructor vs a few crazy idiots that don't know what they're talking about. I wish there was a way we could filter out the idiots before ever having to debate/call them out. Probably won't ever happen but worth a thought.
On most forums, that's what the rep system is for, though often it's just a popularity contest.

It's be cool if instructor could at least be notated as such, perhaps by having to put their instructor number as part of their log on info. On verification, an instructors handle might have a nameplate under it to that effect.
