Suggestions for a LD Shaft

Hey folks,

 

I have a couple of questions about putting together an LD club, specifically about selecting a shaft and loft combination without the ability to test lower lofted/LD heads and shafts.

 

I currently play a callaway razr hawk tour 9.5* with a diamana whiteboard 73x at 45". This has been the best shaft BY FAR for my swing after testing several different combos.

 

My swing speed has topped out at 123 mph, and I tend to launch the ball a tad on the low side, typically between 11 and 12*…though I sweep the ball off a very high tee and hit the ball very high with a strong draw.

 

My first question is, what loft could i look at going to in an LD head?

 

What flex would be appropriate in a LD length shaft?

 

Given the information above, which LD shaft(s) could i look at to get started?

Call Krank and get the opinion of professionals. Lance personally recommended that I hit the Flywire shaft (extremely light but amazingly stable). Unlike some of the other shafts that are heavier, I can hit balls at full speed on back to back days.

Hey, just curious as to what you think of the FlyWire!? I love mine!!! I would recommend it to anyone! It's the coolest looking shaft out there not to mention that it's the lightest LD shaft. However I wished I had tipped it a little bit more... No big deal really, but wondering if you think the tip is as strong as most other LD shafts? Maybe I just needed to go up a flex. What flex did you go with? Is your Ball flight similar to other shafts??

Robert at House of Forged is a good guy and very funny. He will explain all the intracacies well imo. Krank has a contract with Fujikura so that is why more have been playing with those shafts of late. HOF actually has a new ultra light shaft, 59 grams that Sadlowski and 2 of the other semi finalists competed with according to Robert. I just ordered a prototype shaft XX 50" from him as he has excellent prices on Ebay for stuff he is unloading, if you call him direct its probably better. He has generic Geek model driver heads he is putting on some of them. This head is called the HOF and is made in the same factory as the Geek. In some deals he is basically selling those at 50% discount. We see how it works out, who knows but I would call him just to say hello, he is very knowledgeable and open imo.

Stay away from accuflex. They are not the same shafts they used to be

House of forged are great!

The best thing is to test someone long drive clubs.

[*]First of all find the driver length that you swing the fastest with. Most long drivers have the maximum length 50". I found out 49" was the right length for me.
[*]With your swing speed I would recommend a higher loft like 7,5 degrees. But again you have to test what works for you.
[*]I used house of forged shafts. I liked them because they were very stiff but felt soft. With a lot of long drive shafts you can feel intimidated because they feel very stiff.

If you don't know any long drivers I would recommend going to a tournament somewhere. Ask around and test a couple of drivers. Long drivers are usually very nice, so don't be afraid to ask. You will know after testing a few drivers what works for you.

That I don't know but I had ordered some of the "new"accuflex assassin shafts as a trial and they are nowhere near similar to the original assassin shafts. Others have said that is through the accuflex line as well. If you are looking for a shaft that plays similar to say the accuflex pro LD go to

From my knowledge the nforcer LD is very similar to the original accuflex pro LD

Stay away from Accuflex shafts, The only ones that were good were the PRO LD shaft, Real ASSASIN shaft for LD not Golf shaft, ICON LD, pretty much it. But no one uses them any more, not for around 5 years.

HOF and Fujikura are the most used right now. They both have almost same amount of LDA Tour wins and Fuji Might have more WLDC wins now.

The only way to see whats best, is like said above, get some clubs, go hit, see whats best for you, and go from there. Hard thing is that no one really demos LD clubs, and do not rely on going to a bg LD event and asking guys to hit there clubs to see if its right for you. Last thing you want to do and they want to do haha . Sellingers in TX has Demos there if your in that area. But no one demos clubs at events or actual companies. They are different than Golf Clubs for demo.

The Fuji Flywire LD shafts are a big hit now. 57gr at full length, Gonna be hard to get past this one. Lots of switching going on from big hitters going to FUJI shaft from HOF. You will see lots of Green shafts out there next year.
