I put a TaylorMade R1 on craigslist last month. The guy says he will give me $160 cash so I agree to meet him at Publix. He then shows up late with all this stuff and says he has something better then cash. How bout a trade he says.

-Nike Dymo beat to death
-1 dozen used mojo golf balls
-Burned cd' of old classic rock
-Used Adidas golf pants size 40
-Lessons from him

I told him I was looking for cash only so he got upset and said he doesn't pay for golf clubs blah blah blah.. Anyways I only sell on here now

My Dad is crazy on CL... in a much different way.

He has left items on our front porch while we are away from home and tells the buyer to just "come over and pick it up and leave the money on the entrance mat." With nobody to monitor that the guy will pay, I keep thinking my dad is going to get ripped off. But he hasn't! And he has done this like 5 times!

I don't do CL but have a buddy that has made a fortune selling old crap. A few years ago he had a 225 HP outboard motor for sale. Apparently it was new and he was selling it for 10k. Guy show up to but it and offers him a garbage bag full of weed.

I don't know much about outboard motors or weed.....but it's a great story.

I may be one of the few but I rarely ever anymore meet in person I guess I watch the news too much but I value my safety more than the 10 or 15 I would save I usually just get them to mail it to me and I pay the postage more money but how I see it you can't put a amount on a life but that's just me on smal stuff. Now if its a car or something like that I meet at a grocery store or Walmart so there are plenty of people around

Not really a golf sale story, but here goes. My sister's daughter had outgrown a small Winny the Pooh play desk, so she throws it on Craigslist for 15 dollars. She lives in Massachusetts, this was in December, anyone from around here knows what the weather is like in December. My sister gets a phone call from someone in Rhode Island interested in buying the desk. The buyer insisted that she would drive up and look at it that day, my sister tells her that the weather is not so great, and advised her to not come. The buyer agreed with her, and said she would come another day. So, my sister drops the kids off at school and runs some errands. She comes home a few hours later to find a note on her door informing her that she will be hearing from the buyers attorney because she came by while my sister was not home and slipped on ice in her driveway! My sister actually had to go to court over this due to the injuries the buyer claimed she received at the home while no one was around. I swore off Craigslist after that.

Holy crap these are some crazy stories. Luckily my lone craigslist encounter was a good one. Listed my first driver ever, an '09 Burner, had a few bites, then finally someone was serious enough to meet. Turned out to be a med school kid leaving for the new semester that weekend. I was able to sell the matching 3 wood to him too! I think if you feel someone out in the initial conversations to make sure they're not crazy, you can do just fine selling on craigslist.

I've done several transactions brought on by craigslist, but they've all gone smoothly. Some of the stories are seriously insane haha. I could see my brother doing some of these things as a joke, but it's almost hard to believe people out there really can act like this. Almost.

I remember when the first Iphone came out. Some dude was selling it to a guy on CL and they agreed to meet up at a Sonic parking lot. The guy buying it pulled out a gun and killed the seller right in front of about 10 people that were eating. No one is safe on CL even if they meet in a public place. No way will I EVER use CL.

These are some crazy stories. Makes me think twice about all the CL selling I do. But luckily I've never really had any bad experiences.

The only strange experience I've had was when I was trying to sell a driver to a guy who lived about an hour away round trip. We agreed to meet at the local driving range at 4:30, he wanted to meet earlier than that but I told him I have class till 4:15 so 4:30 was the absolute earliest I could meet. I got out of class and rushed to the driving range, but because of congestion I didn't pull into the lot until 4:32. I texted the buyer to let him know I was there and he responded that he had already left because I didn't show up. After that we exchanged a few texts back and forth about patience and wasting each others time.

That is hilarious. Some people's version of reality is really amusing to the rest of us. When he asked you for money you should have said "Well I changed my mind, instead of free, I am gonna sell this for $20, so you owe me $10".

I recently sold my wife's car on craigslist. It had broken down, was towed to a shop, and the amount of money to fix it wasn't worth it to either of us (we were already shopping for a new car).

So I take pictures and post it on CL. Guy calls me and asks me to meet him (it's a 50 minute drive from him). We meet, he likes the price, and takes out a wad of cash to pay for it.

I kindly say "let's meet again, my wife needs to clean it out and get her stuff" he says "no worries, take the money and the keys and the title. Get the title notarized and call me when she's done cleaning it out. I'll come get the keys and title" and drives away.

He gave me thousands of dollars in cash, left me with the keys and title, and only had my cell phone number to track me.

Needless to say, my wife cleaned her car out, we got title notarized, and called him a week later to get the keys. I was amazed at how trusting this guy was. I never would have done that.
