any other putters using this style?

I would like to try out a putter that's similar to these, but since I'm not sure if I'm going to like it or not...I would like for it to be a "no-so-expensive" experiment. I think the cheapest of the above listed putter is the Odyssey at around $120. The TPA is pretty hard to find and would probably pale in comparison in terms of feel to any of these other putters.


anyone know of any other putters with the same shape that I could get for >$100? In fact, if you know of any putters that fit this style...feel free to go ahead and list them.

I can suggest the Odyssey #9!!

Best putter I've had ! (then again, I didn't have that many (cool) )

 

If you look around you can find them used for under a $100

I wish they made the #9 in a different insert (firmer) than the XG. I'm really not a fan of the really soft, rubbery inserts.

If you are looking for a firmer insert, try the Ping G2i Piper H. There are a couple on e-bay that you could probably get for under hundred. However, Ping doesn't make them any more, so you can't get them new.

I really like the XG 9. And I went through a ton of putters last year. You can find them cheap - even post a WTB ad here. I got two of them off the BST ads, one for $65 and one for $80 - both including shipping and the original headcoves (which BTW are crapola).

I bought a Wilson TPA XVIII for $10. I bought it because I like the shape, can't really putt with it. It actually feels surprisingly good. It's worth a shot if you don't want to spend a lot of cash.

What you described is the regular Piper. The PiperH referenced above is heel shafted just like the Del Mar 3.5, XG #9 etc.

If you are looking for an incredible version of the TPA XVIII, I have one that may fit the bill. It is done in Black Star and would rate a perfect 10, as it hasn't touched a ball or grass since Byron finished it. I has been shafted at 34" since the pics were taken and it gorgeous. The ferrule has two chrome rings at the top and looks perfect.

I haven't posted it on the BST, but could be convinced to part with it.

I'd suggest going to your nearest Golf megastore and trying some out. There are many many putters that use this style. Some of the more expensive have been mentioned, but most golf shops will have cheap no-name knock-offs which you could try out.

The Piper H, NC #4, are NOT similar to a DelMar 3.5. Maybe the silhouettes, but not the weighting or feel. The Odyssey is also closer to those. The Ping and NC have very little offset and, together with the #9, are relatively flat on top of the back flange.

 

The DelMar 3.5, TPA XVIII, and the Maranello are the same shape.

I have recently become addicted to this style of putter too. The plumbers neck just doesnt do it for me. For some reason I putt a lot better with this style. I just picked up this, it was pretty darn cheap. I wish it had less offset tho...

I have a Cobra TPA XVIII-i that I really like a lot. It has a yellow rubber insert, and I used it for the better part of three years when I started taking golf seriously. The rubber insert is surprisingly nice. They aren't that common, but if you find one it should be at a good price.

However, the TPA XVIII and its clones are one of the classic designs. Most putter manufacturers have their version.

 

If the original poster can't find a cheap putter to play with after all these suggestions there is something very wrong.

 

Personally, I'd just get a TPA XVIII.

i went with the Ping Piper H. Got it a couple of weeks and rolled a few putts with it. I like it, but I've been putting pretty good with the Scotty Cameron lately, so it will stay in the bag for now. I'll go to the Piper when this goes sour.
