Remember when football players could make a simple tackle and just get up and leave the field too instead of acting the fool when their team is down 42-20 late in the 4th?

Yeah, twirling at the range probably looks equally ridiculous. Go for it. Just don't expect anyone to think it's "cool" to do.
when you make a "Cool" $10million+ to do a stupid dance in the endzone, scoring a touchdown for your team to cover the over........ well, I would rather be ridiculous on tv then someone watching me couch quarterbacking.... jus sayin....
As it relates to our topic here:

Touchdown to win game? "Dance-worthy."
Simple tackle with 3 minutes left in the game, and your team is still down by 20? Not "dance-worthy."

Sticking it close to give yourself an eagle opportunity on-course? "Twirl-worthy."
Simply hitting a range ball? Not "twirl-worthy."

I value my twirls and save them for special occasions. ;o)
i've had hole in ones on the range, haven't you?

The ONLY time I have been offended by twirling was in a match play match where my opppponent was making a comeback. He hits a good shot on a par 3 and twirls the club, it go to 6 inches away.. maybe less. He turn to me and says:
"Eff ya, (female dog)" (keep in mind he said both swear words that I tried to convey)
Well... I beat him, and while shaking my hand he told me "not to cheat". So I told him to make better excuses for losing.

Yes, you should feel badly.

This is why there should be a law to protect the less skilled from being humiliated and permanently scarred by public displays of confidence and ability by the more proficient.

Think of the children.

Let's start a petition of support for The Anti-Twirling Law.

If this is a photo of you standing outside the clubhouse, I can see why he'd be pissed, twirling your clubs like you do that darn cane.

If not, then ya, what a doofus.

I probably would have asked him if he had seen any of my shots and if he wanted to know what perfection looked like, to watch the next shot.

Then remind him that the show isn't free and there is a fee to watch something so pretty.

Who me?

Grass and at the little range near me, it's pretty bad too. ;) Down here late/early in the season, it's alot like hitting out of a sand trap with a little grass growing in it.

But it still beats the heck out of snow.

If this was on a mat, I would say, unacceptable. With the only exception being a situation where you and a buddy are experimenting with drivers or something and you absolutely nut one.

But, since it was on "pretty bad grass" I would say 1 full blown club twirl, and 2 anger club twirls would be acceptable for a driving range. You know, the shot that's really pure but pulled or blocked or something and since it's a pure shot, a twirl is semi acceptable but since it was technically a bad shot, the twirl is more out of anger instead of other responses to a bad shot.

My ruling, in this case, would be that 1 full blown club twirl and 2 anger twirls would have been in acceptable driving range behavior based on supplied conditions. If you far exceeded the this amount, say every other shot, or 1 in 3 shots, they had every right to call you on your violation.

Uhmm.... I saw a post the other day from MtlJeff about the 5 stereotypes he hadn't seen on the course...

#5 was the over aggressive meathead...

I would have been #5 and told him to GFY....

I'm still terribly confused why anyone gives two flying turds what anyone else is doing when they PRACTICE....

If your twirling after every shot in round of golf and I'm playing with.... I would start making fun of you.... Harmless... But a good natured ribbing is in order...

If you didn't stop... I would just shrug and try to whip your butt on the scorecard...

But to devote emotion... Especially negative emotion to what someone else is doing on the DRIVING RANGE is quite frankly...

Have you ever SEEN me hit a range ball?

People have been known to shed a tear it's so pretty.

When you're good, you're good. If people want to stop and watch give them a little show. When I'm on a roll I don't really pay attention to what I'm doing. I don't think that guy should have said anything at all. If I'm at the range and a guy is twirling his club I'm going to stop and watch.

See now, I never got the manual.

I'll have to go back and check my range score card and see if I had any violations that might have cost me a twirl or two.

I'm one of those guys that does notice other people on the range especially if I hit a few bad shots in a row. I will take a break, try to regroup, and watch some swings. If I see a person really hitting it well I might take a little more notice.

If you were hitting drives 300 yards then I wouldn't care if you twirled. But if you were hitting it 250, I might think you were kind of odd and full of yourself. There's got to be some sort of standard to twirl isn't there? LOL.

The guy I can't stand is the one who swears or slams clubs with kids around. Go hunting or wrestle Gators macho man.

For twirling ?!?!?

It's not something I'm even aware that I do but apparently I do it "way too often" and it's "Very rude" to "Rub our noses in it everytime you hit a nice shot".

Noted....

Do I at least get credit for a passive brag on twirling ability ?

So far this is the strangest thing ever said to me (on a golf course).
I once had a similar situation happen while playing, I had got pair up with a guy and his father in law. On the first green after I holed a 15 footer for par the father in law said to me " you got kind of a Happy Gilmore thing going on there don't ya" referring to the way I hold my putter. I figured he was joking and just laughed but then later in the round he went on to tell me that I was "a terrible putter" and that " if I could just learn to putt I'd be a pretty good golfer ". I didn't even know what to say I just laughed it off and finished my round, wich btw I smoked the both of them :) I was waiting for them to hit and find their balls the hole day lol

But definitely the strangest thing I've had happen on the course

Things that annoy me at a driving range:

1)People who ask for lessons
2)People who offer unsolicited advice
3)People who curse themselves out loud after every poor shot
4)People who play Zen music where I can hear it (only happened once but it was ANNOYING)

You notice twirling after every shot was not on my list...

Twirling? That's nothing. I literally saw a kid do 5 push-ups every time he hit a bad shot.

I took vid of a guy at the dome the other day grunting as loud as a female tennis player after every single impact with driver. Huge guy too! 6'5" Mid 50's and mean looking. Barely reached 95 mph ! Thrill house said I better not post it but imagine you're range guys potential run in with this guy!
People need to lighten up.
