Great write up on the tour and what Ping is really about. Now, I am like a kid on christmas morning waiting on the actual release photos and info from Ping! Is it the 1st yet?!?! :black eye:

Very cool to get this going again. I thought the first few paragraphs about the history of the company and random tidbits were some of the most interesting things to read of the thread.

Zak - Love the super-cheese smile you have when holding King Louie's 4 iron, haha. Although, if I were in a room full of gold plated clubs, I would be cheesing from ear-to-ear too.

Apparently, playing your best and aesthetics are mutually exclusive concepts at Ping.

I'm not sure I read that anywhere in the write-up, more of a sense that they they won't sacrifice one iota of performance to make something prettier. That is something I can get behind, I want to play my best not stand around the putting green looking slick.

Well said and my sentiments exactly.

ETA: Although I do find most Ping products to look great. Some might be a little chunky, but beautiful in their own right.

I'm playing S55, can't say I have a problem with their aesthetics, possibly the prettiest club released last year with the exception of MP4 which frankly, are pure golf porn that I'd rather hang on a wall than smash a little ball with.

The I 25 driver has an unreal sound to it I would like to say !
Good to hear and wouldn't expect anything less. The Ping Anser and G25 were in my final four before I ultimately selected the R1. If you have hit them, what are your thoughts on the i25 vs my top four?

1. Taylormade R1 - very long, straight, and forgiving
2. Ping G25 - long, straight, and very forgiving
3. Ping Anser - long and straight (not as forgiving as the R1 and G25)
4. Nike Covert - super straight and forgiving (just not as long as the others)

Thanks.

It has absolutely nothing to do with standing around the putting green looking slick. It has everything to do with looking down at address and having a design that appeals to your eye. Everyone is different. Ping has never been able to effectively marry performance and aesthetics IMO.

Can you honestly say that "at address" you can see any significant difference between any of the Titleist CB/MB series and any of the Ping S series? Or any players cb/mb club for that matter? You can't see the badging or the brand name at address.

I can understand that the offset and chunkiness of the G series isn't to everybody's liking but if you put AP1 next to i20 there isn't much in it, saying that a manufacturer has no sense of aesthetic value because their most popular/recognisable clubs sit in the SGI category is a bit of a stretch even on the interwebs.

Unfortunately, the shape of their driver heads have never been to my liking (even today's current crop). The irons have been a bit different story. I played the Eye 2 and ISI's growing up, but the Zing's were definitely not good to look at because of the toe chunk. I like the look of the S55 irons and will give them a try vs. the Titleist CB's.

Great write-up! But, I am still waiting… What's going to help Marty Jertson play his best in 2014?

I am a big Ping fan. I have numerous putters, complete iron sets, wedges and drivers. I have always felt that Ping puts engineering ahead of marketing. One day I need to sneak out to Arizona and make sure through proper fitting that I am not leaving anything on the table. I would love to discuss with their engineers what they think go the new forward CG line of thinking that Nike, TM and Callaway are pushing.
Would love to hear their thoughts as well and how significant the advantages/disadvantages are with each school of thought.

the anser was very low spin, they did something to that head

Just to revive this thread, I am keenly interested in what irons Marty Jertson is going to play this year.
