tm burner

wow it is loong
I was just at the driving range today and hit a burner, non-tp version. I must say it was really really long. The face is pretty closed (looked like 2*) and the graphics will be a love/hate. The pros outweighed the cons though aka you could easily pickup 20 yards if you are not the strongest guy. It feels much faster through the zone and I could really give it something extra when I felt like it. Overall I think it should be a huge hit, I liked it better than the new callaway, cleveland, nike products I've tried.

PS I read somewhere on this board that the black shaft was a "pre-production with no graphics." This is not the case as the one I saw had a black and white shaft.

On a launch monitor I hit the TM Burner (stock stiff 9.5) approximately 20 yards longer than the FT-5; however, the FT-5 (stock stiff 10.0?) was deadly accurate (almost no dispersion at all). The Burner had much wider dispersion, but not bad compared to scary perfect).

I went in looking to buy the FT-5 (to replace my FT-3, which I love); I purchased the Burner for much less $$$.

Tried it on a snow covered range once (cold and windy 29 degrees) – it was hard to pick up the ball and impossible to track distance; however, again the Burner felt really hot.

I am sure the lighter and longer shaft has something to do with it, but the Burner does appear to be a bomber. This is going to be a fun club.

I got on the vector yesterday with the Superquad, Burner, & FT-5 all with the Pro V1x. First, the Superquad feels very solid and has a great sound. It looks good at address but is slightly closed. My SS was 106-108 and I was generating 154-158 ball speed. The Superquad with 9.5 loft and stiff shaft was launching the ball at 12.5 - 13.5 and generating between 2700-2900rpm. I was carrying about 260-264 with a total distance of around 280. Very similiar to my current R7 425 9.5....just a little more forgiving and a little better sound at impact.

On to the Burner. First, I was using a 9.5 with the stock stiff shaft. My SS went down to about 104 and my ball speed dropped to 148 - 150. My backspin jumped to 3200-3400 rpm and my launch to 14.5 -16. My carry went to 240-245 with a total distance of around 260. The club felt solid and sounded very, very good but the clubface looked very closed. The shaft length felt hard to control and get around on. The club felt very light and screwed up my tempo. This will be a good club for higher handicappers.

Finally the FT-5. This club looked best at address appearing very square to slightly closed. I was using the 10 loft and stiff shaft. Sounded and felt very good at impact. Huge improvement over the FT-3. My SS jumped back up to 106-108 with a ball speed of 156-160. My launch angle dropped to 11.5-13 and my backspin was much better at 2600-2800. I was carrying about 265-268 with a total distance of 282- 285. This club was very impressive and I am not a Callaway fan at all.

I'll keep the R7 425 in my bag for the time being until I can try the Titleist D2 and the Cobra Pro.

I dont know how you lost SS MPH with the Burner?????

But, I hit the burner yesterday and I hit the superquad a week ago and the Burner is the best driver out today. And for the price? You cant beat it at all!!!!

I am waiting on the TP version so that I can get the right shaft and an open face. But I hit this very well. The Superquad isnt much better than the 425TP I had. It actually looks the same at address (but closed) and feels nice but is maybe a little more forgiving. I still like the 460TP a little better.

I have hit the sumo, sumo2, fti, ft5, and the TM drivers and I dont think any are worth getting a new driver over! THe square drivers just feel big and not aerodynamic... mental!

But I am sticking with the 460TP and a 905r for this year I hope!

And for comparison sake, I hit all against a 460 ignite with the NV65S and that club still performs with the rest. For some reason that club is amazing for me. I just wish I could suck it up and play a 2-3 year old club.....

i hit the burner at the range the other night against my rapture. it is longer, i'd say about 5-10 yards but it is largely due to the length of the shaft considering i choked down about an inch and a half and i got similar distances to my rapture. it is one thing though, stupid straight and it doesn't balloon like the sumo2 or ft-i. i'm actually quite impressed with the burner, it's the first taylormade driver that i can hit, albeit i had to grip the club so ridiculously sideways so it would be square at impact (held the club a solid 4* open). the superquad though is just average if that imo.

edit1: by longer, i mean carry distances only. not complete distance.

I hit it today in the sim andthe numbers were impressive. Wasn't able to spend a lot of time with it, but was impressed enough to wonder if I should get that or continue to order an Ft-5.

I understand the meaning of sarcasm, but I would state your yardage gain a little bit more clearly, so the comedians don't bust your balls so much.

I would have said it more like this. When I swapped from my Taylormade 9.5* Firesole to my Titleist 983K, I gained an easy 10-15 yards. This was the actual gain for me. Now I know that if I went from my 983K to the Burner, I might not gain 20 yards, but maybe 2-3.

Remember every inch longer translates to about 8.5 yards. Add a lightweight shaft that could also allow the person to swing faster that could mean 20 yards gained. It will work for some and for others it won't work at all I'm sure. I usually swing a 75 gram shaft at 45 inches. The lighter and longer shaft may just screw up my tempo. Never the less I'll give it a try.

I hit the Burner against the FT-3, FT-5 and HiBore XL Tour yesterday. I was least impressed with the Burner out of the four. It felt hollow and cheap, hit the ball too high and spun too much with the lightweight shaft.

1. Hibore XL Tour

2. FT-3

3. FT-5

4. Burner (a fairly distant fourth)

Just my opinion.....

Id imagine Burner TP would be signifcantly better than Burner non TP....
