Design finalized (repost with caveats)

Ok, so my last post was closed for content violations so here's the deal:

I am NOT selling anything. If anyone wants to get one of my putters, I will GIVE you the design file (free!) for you to get a putter made by a machine shop on your own.

That said, here's where I am with my design. First run is a multi-material design with an insert and no edge smoothing. I've been playing it for the past couple of months and love the weight and balance of it but it's missing something.

Second design went to @gioguy21 and I'm still waiting to hear how it works... :)

My latest design is a bit simpler and more complicated. Simpler in that it's a single piece but more complicated because I put a lot of smoothing into the milled design so I don't have to do so much hand work. This one is 1018 carbon steel with a black oxide finish from the machinist and I think I've got the jackpot with it. Not a single thing I'd change on it. I have a matte black KBS putter shaft ready for it. And I don't think I'll put any paint on it. I think I like it all murdered out.

That black one is sexy AF. Can you post another picture of the sole? In the picture above, I can't tell if the sole is contoured or there is just a glare from the table it is on.

Thanks! It's a 5 sided sole - tri-sole in 2 directions. It's not so beveled that the leading edge is so high but it does give a bit of help against catching on the grass and works awesome on the fringe.

That 5 sole thing seems to be next level... good for a forwar press I would think. That is impressive work.

What is the weight on these putters?

They are both around 350g as designed but I don't know what the actual weight is. I don't have a scale to measure them.

Looking good. Looks a tad long to me though but for a diy, great job.

It's the same length as most all answer style heads.

(Top to bottom - Kingston KP1, Mizuno Bettinardi, Button Back, Mann MA/66, this design)

Thanks! I have a bad problem with hitting putts fat sometimes and so I wanted some relief. With the beveled leading edge, it's just enough to eliminate it most of the time and when I'm putting from the fringe or fairway, it just glides over the grass. I love it and it is going on all my designs.

@jokerusn I'm waiting on my wife's machining company to be in a down time so I can get some time on the CNC!

Me too! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

It's done. And it's a beaut. It is exactly what I wanted out of my putter.

Is there a way to make the topline thinner without compromising forgiveness/weight distribution requirements? If you wanted it a little heavier, 365-380g, how would one go about that from a design perspective?

It came out very nicely. Love the sole bevels, though would prefer at least the lateral line more blended, the side lines I think blending just for aesthetics.

Definitely can thin it out without issue. The easiest way to go heavier is making the cavity shallower and/or making the flange thicker. That makes the weight distribution constant. You can also make the flange wider but that doesn't keep the profile the same.

I'm working on a similar design but we're having challenges with the cost of having the head + neck milled from the same block - I assume you didn't weld the neck and it's all from the same block?

I did have it milled from a single block. I am not a welder and I wanted to have complete control over neck placement and size. I agree it's not the most cost effective way but I wasn't turned off by the price of it. I milled the black one out of carbon steel which dropped the price a little over stainless.

Good call. And yes, we don't want to deal with welding either. I have very little experience with welding and the last thing I want to do is ruin a perfectly milled head we put so much time into.
