Help Me Plan My Ireland Golf Trip For 2027
Chanceman replied to EmperorPenguin's topic in Great Britain and Ireland
At the time I thought RCD was the better course but after seeing the. Open with the new holes from the Valley I now think Portrush is superior. Not by much though. -
I reckon there would be a few places to get tee times. But you might need to spread the net a bit wide. And I’m also hoping for some Arsenal success.

Hobson’s choice. I mean really - 2 of the best courses on the planet. -
Makes me think of that Willie Nelson song City of New Orleans.

I’d say you did it right! Well played.

Very good, thanks. And I agree that a good course just grows on you with each round as you get to understand the nuances. -
4 countries in one trip- sassy!

Interested in your next planned golf trip of a week or more. My group is going to Wales UK for two weeks in September, playing Penmaenmawr 9h Conwy Porthmadog Nefyn & District Royal St David’s Aberdovey Cardigan St David’s City 9h Tenby Pennard Southerndown Royal Porthcawl Llandrindod Wells We will be staying in a local pub, Airbnb, or Dormy (Aberdovey, Harlech and Tenby). Renting a van from Manchester Airport & driving ourselves. I was able to book all these courses about 6/8 months ago.

I like your Irish itinerary- Portrush and RCD back to back is quite a pickup. Try the Harbor Bar in Portrush. I don’t recall anything much in Newcastle.

A hot list. Why not put them in order of your enjoyment not just which is “best”? -
I’ve not said he was a garbage person. By all accounts he’s very decent. Good for him. By the way that vid is from Royal Troon last year.

Those kids will be cheering for someone else next time. And then Scheffler can complain some more about the crowd wanting someone else to win. He does not seem to realize he is blest to play a game beloved by so many. He says he was called to play golf - is that unlike you or me ? Sure he is phenomenal but pretty sure he does not appreciate the significance of the game in the lives of others.
-
Done. Seve and Trevino are the most inspirational golfers I have seen. Scheffler is pretty dull by comparison but if he inspires you then great.
-
Seems to me that polite applause would suit Scheffler quite well. He’s a dour uninspiring character with a narrow view of the world. Pretty damn good obviously but not in the Arnie, Tiger, Seve, Phil or Rory mould.

Contrarian view. Scottie was very disrespectful to the Open and golf history in his winning celebrations. Asked what it meant to him he just basically said it was just another hohum win. No mention of being part of history. Just “cool”. Very little acknowledgement of the crowds. His talk about what’s the point was I believe disingenuous. It means a lot to him to win, he’s a very dogged competitor. But a bit bland for me.

PM me and we can play it

If you have played Moonah links and St Andrews beach then why not The Dunes which is close by? I think you would love it.

Best way to plan a trip to Ireland
Chanceman replied to Lions1988's topic in Great Britain and Ireland
I planned and booked everything for myself and a mate for a 3 week trip - at least a year ahead. We decided early on to rent a car. Plot out a rough itinerary as you would want it, allowing for travel time, then send emails to each club to get your tee times. That will probably require some adjustments as not all your preferred courses will be available on your dates. Try not to pay upfront without free cancellation. Once the courses are in place then book your hotels or airbnb as needed. You just have to be patient and flexible. -

Carne is something else. -
Not for me it isn’t.

Nicely put.

Silloth is one English course I would dearly love to play . Just hope to live long enough. It sounds superb despite the threat of high winds. And it is such a pain to get there.
