Went to Pinehurst in June….working to get the crew aligned on the next one. On one hand I want to do another Feb trip, probably back to AZ. Scheduling this one is harder than it has been in recent years.

It was not. Our membership, me included, has been raising Cain about hosting outside events on Fridays. IMO that should never happen. Monday only. We have had few on Fridays this summer and upcoming in August, which I find totally unacceptable unless we are getting club management advice from CPG. 👎🏼 I wrote a letter to the board on this topic and also had a very direct discussion with the club president. The scheduling will be very different next summer I expect. -

Fundraiser scramble for the United Way of Washington County today. Me Former boss, 9 index, on the United Way board Former colleague, no handicap Friend of former boss, 22 index With that lineup I would have been happy with something around par. We were approaching our 15th hole (started on 11) when a huge storm with lots of lightning came up. That made the third rain delay of the day. Course couldn’t take any more water so the event was called. Bummer. We were six under, very respectable due to some serious ham and egging. I hit a 9i to a blind green, third shot on a par 5 tight, to about 8”. Also hit a killer 5w to another blind green 185 up the hill, got up there and it was 24” away. As usual for me in a scramble, I made those contributions but also had some shocking bad swings. I think anyone struggles to concentrate in the hit and giggle events. Playing in the Ohio Adaptive Open next weekend outside Cleveland. Some great golf courses over there…..I don’t think we are playing at one…. -

Dang that is quick! So much rain for us this summer ours haven’t gotten near that speed yet. We’ve been running 10.5-11 most days, the slower days are when they are wet. -
Funny….few weeks ago I go to the liquor store, then home. Couple hours later I go to pick up takeout, en route, no wallet. ☠️ Call home, the missus tells me “no wallet here.” I get a call from a phone # I don’t recognize, but I decide to answer. It’s the local police 👮 telling me the wallet had been picked up in the parking lot, brought inside to the general manager of the Wine & Liquor Warehouse, and if I could identify myself he’d be happy to return it. I go in and sure enough there it is, including all of the cash. I made another purchase. 😁

Isn’t that the truth! I do not react to results. That is Coach’s job. If I’m yelling at him saying “take the shot” or “GET OFF BOTTOM” (the worst!) or “strike him out” (ok I would not yell that, I don’t think he’s ever put a baseball glove on), I mean come on, you think the kid doesn’t know that? You think a wrestler wants to be on bottom? That doesn’t help at all, and when he’s in a busy hall with 75 mats in there and people yelling all over the place, he needs to hear one and only one voice — Coach. I want both boys to understand: control the inputs. So yeah, I will make you go to that Sunday AM practice no one likes. I will make sure you eat the right things, and you will go lift on schedule. That doesn’t mean you go unbeaten, only generational talents do that. But the more work you put in and the more focused work, the better your results will be, that is a fact. Golf is a great teacher on this topic. A player can do everything right. Focused putting green practice. Clock drills. Ladder drills. Learn to read greens. Start reading as you are walking up the fairway. Nail your routine. Control your nerves, breathing, and heartbeat. Make that perfect stroke you’ve made 10,000 times. At that point it’s out of your hands. Some find the jar. Some don’t. Sometimes you missed the read. Other times who knows why it didn’t drop? But if the player embraces and owns every single step that came before that ball started rolling, he will become a better putter. Control the inputs. -

Thanks! Boy came back out and torched his next opponent with the tech fall. He’s pretty mentally strong….which you have to be after getting your butt beat 3 straight to go back out there and do your job. My thinking is by the time a kid gets to HS, if they are pretty good and want to be really good, they generally have to direct it themselves, but often a kick in the ### from a parent is needed too. I definitely could / should have been pushed more in sports at that age. My son decided he wanted to change clubs last year to a rougher crowd and a club that travels more to compete. He generally selects what events he wants to enter and at what weight, and he is super disciplined about knowing what he puts in his body and what it causes. I have to be careful not to push him too much because his club and HS team coaches are really tough so he gets plenty of that from them. Not oldschool what used to be thought of as tough but was just abusive. I won’t have any of that, but they do expect commitment and results….in return they will literally do anything for their athletes to be successful. -
World class bag ho here. Don’t go too nice unless you don’t have to do frequent air travel!! The best bags are the ones that look better the worse you treat them, or ones where you just don’t care. Most functional bag I’ve ever used for biz travel is an eBags Mother Lode Jr. Does it all. 1 week trips, no problem. Can stretch to 2 with some shortcuts, and it’s nothing special so I don’t care if it gets tore up. Best briefcase is anything from Filson. Mine has several hundred thousand air miles on it. The dirtier I get it, the more I shove it around, the more I kick it and just generally beat its hide, the better it looks.

Thanks. My job now is accountability on putting the work in. Diet, lifting, going to practice, drilling, weight mgt, etc. But my role is much less now as it’s mostly athlete driven. Coach holds them accountable on results. Parents parent. Coaches coach. -

Son is 0-3 at Summer Nationals today. No excuses, he’s just not feeling great, lacking energy and intensity. Inconsistency at 15 years old? You don’t say! -
Exactly. No one needs that many balls, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone with that many, or even more!

Cheats, you suck! A 22.3 shoots a 79 in comp about once every NEVER. The DoorDash delivery of 80# of sand for the cart is one of the greatest responses I’ve ever seen. I’d be ostracized at my place if I had a guest cheat like that. -

I’m trying to remember the first CD I purchased. It was a little later because it took me a bit to get the cash together for a Discman. Not sure why…I was making $$$$$$ caddying, where was that money going? Tapes would be impossible to recall. I am a 1976 model so when I got into music it was the height of the mix tape era….demos, copies, bootlegs, all kinds of stuff from all kinds of sources. I am ashamed I left Bob Marley off my golf playlist above. Bob is great in any context. He is actually my son’s typical wrestling warm-up music. -

All of us amateurs are too dumb to figure it out on our own. For whatever reason, this sport tricks us into thinking we can get good without coaching. It is frankly, crazy. Golf is not a natural motion. What you think you are doing is almost never what you are actually doing. And what you need to do is often completely counter to what you think the solution is. I played other sports at reasonable levels, and I’ll pick one. For me to think I would have just “dug it out of the (hard tru)” and become a pretty decent tennis player without lessons or coaching is pretty absurd. So why do golfers think this? All this aside, if that ^^^^ is the professional advice you are getting, you need to find new professionals. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Dang. He only won seventeen dollars for all that?

Yep. It’s a hobby. OP is not playing golf to feed his family, nor is he an elite Walker Cup level amateur. It’s a hobby — something supposed to bring joy to the time you’re able to devote to it. If that’s not happening, some time away or a detour into a different hobby is totally fine — especially since this one is relatively costly and a high time commitment. I thought I’d had golf taken away forever. A forced 3.5 year hiatus is what it turned out to be, and I’m back and taking far more enjoyment from the game than I ever did before.

Water the night before. Dessert for dinner should be some variety of fruit(s) with no added sugar. Morning of, a light breakfast, eggs, toast, and a banana. Minimal coffee. If you can skip coffee without getting the caffeine withdrawal headache, skip it. If you’re like me and addicted…minimum possible to avoid the headache. There may be something else going on if you’re getting that exhausted and dehydrated riding. Golf even in hot humid conditions isn’t very strenuous if you’re riding. Are you taking any meds that can cause heat sensitivity or encourage dehydration? No need to answer here as that is pretty personal, but maybe have a think about that too.
