  1. I want to make that trip to play golf in Northern Ireland, Ireland, or Scotland in the worst way. By far my #1 (realistic) destination and just haven’t been able to make it work yet with family commitments. Next summer, same problem. I have a milestone birthday, but a golf trip is not going to happen as that will be right when Son #1 heads off to school. It will happen eventually, maybe before Son #2 is out of the house, perhaps not, either way it’s all good. The other issue is with my travel crew. I’m not going to do a trip solo, for me that feels lame. But my usual travel group….they have zero problem with getting it cleared with the missus to go anywhere in the States. But as soon as a passport is required, spouses are mandatory. I have brought up several times that makes no sense. For us on Eastern time, travel time to Ireland is often shorter than San Diego, and always much, much faster than getting to Bandon. So why the distinction? I don’t know, I’m not the one coming up with it. So if the crew can’t get aligned and I don’t love the idea of a solo golf trip, the missus in my house is excited to do such a trip (she knows I will be thoughtful about the golf aspect for her) but that creates a logistics problem with two teen boys at home who don’t play golf. First world problems indeed. We should all be so lucky as having to sort this out. 🙂
  2. The only exception I make to that is CPG. Don’t tell me the NET 5 hat isn’t good. 😁
  3. Ive been a Type I for 45 years. Here is what works for me: No alcohol the evening before play, and definitely no alcohol during play. Drink water the evening before play and the morning before play. You don’t have to go crazy, just make sure you’re sufficiently hydrated…that doesn’t mean pound down a gallon before going to bed, etc. Bare minimum caffeine / coffee you need to avoid the caffeine withdrawal headache, if you’re a coffee drinker. If you can skip it without the headache, skip it. I can’t skip it without the repercussion, so instead of a big cup or three, I’ll have a shot of espresso. Eat breakfast. Eggs, fruit, and a piece of toast, something like that. During play: keep a PB&J sandwich and a small bag of trail mix (nut heavy) with you. Have a bite here and there, I don’t like to wait until the turn and then pound the sandwich. Carry a second PB&J if you want, no space or weight concern here. No soda, ever. I just drink water unless I detect a low coming, in which case I’ll drink a fruit juice or a Powerade. I also wear a Dexcom CGM. Changed my life, as I don’t need to stop what I’m doing to check BG. Quick glance at my phone and there it is. It’s also fine to start the round running a little high. I like to be at about 200 on the first tee, and important — not rising or falling. That keeps me in a nice range during play. Can’t stress how important the CGM is in my case. Good luck!
  4. 1,000 times this. It’s situational. For me, fitting is so important now I am not sure I’d be able to play much without my wild specs (my 7i is 41” long…) but this is clearly a unique situation…..an outlier! The closer you are to mainstream, the less it matters. Also agree 100% with an earlier point — I’d never do a driver fitting with range balls or an iron fitting off mats.
  5. Not as unpopular as it would have been a couple years ago….I don’t get The Buck Club. Buying expensive gear from a make-believe club is not for me.
  6. Yep. Great player. Not great coach. Pain in the butt faux tough-guy.
  7. Who cares? He was a third rate coach at best. 😁
  8. The whole greens speed thing is a stupid flex. We’ve had buckets of rain this year. The greens are rolling beautifully and more important, all 18 are consistent speed and condition, as is the practice green. What annoyed me is the supposition he gets to dictate the greens speed and speak for all the other members. The greens committee chair can sort of do that, but the greens chair was putting out on 18 at the time and I don’t know who it was pontificating in the locker room.
  9. Adidas ZG23 BOA shoes, gently worn, no box Size 12M, std width $40 plus shipping I have less than 10 rounds in these, all riding, never walked 18, no range or practice sessions. I sized up like I usually do in Adidas and they are just too big for me. Very lightweight and stable, great kicks I wish fit me. Great shape, cleaned after every round. No scuffs, abrasions, uglies, or smelliness. About as nice as used golf shoes can be. $40 plus shipping to you. I’ll send UPS or USPS from Western PA. PayPal only, continental US, please.
  10. Our invitational was this weekend. I missed it this year, but played yesterday afternoon and the course is in wonderful shape. Recall, we almost lost the course entirely last summer due to the drought and water access dispute. Apparently the event was a great success. It was over subscribed within a few days of registration opening. That is awesome. Not so awesome: cadre of guys, you know the type, they have everything all figured out….loudly complaining that the greens were “only” 11.8 this weekend. 🙄 Overheard in the locker room yesterday “….dunno about this new super, told him we want fast greens, so give me fast greens, not excuses.” I was in a good mood so I didn’t say anything, but catch me in a bad mood and I’d tell him “when you talk with (super) and tell him that, speak for yourself, do not speak for me.”
  11. I am definitely a drip in the cup guy, especially with most of my rounds coming on quick Tillinghast greens. My inability to adjust meant I left everything, meaning all putts, short on this year’s NC trip. The greens at Southern Pines and Tobacco Road….man if they were kept as fast as ours are, they’d be unplayable. I did lots of dripping into an imaginary cup 3’ short of the hole.
  12. On our NC trip, I could not adjust to the slower greens. I heard this on repeat: “Dude. You’re hitting your lines, now hit the next putt with some conviction!” Followed by: “You try to drip another one in I’m gonna take your putter.”
  13. Yep, some situational awareness would be good. If I have string out and a couple of tees in the green to make a gate, yes I’m practicing to this single hole and could you please putt to one of the other 13 holes on the practice green? Thanks in advance. 👍🏼 It works both ways too. Never, ever leave your practice stuff (string, tees, mirror, etc.) there to “claim” a hole then go inside to get something to drink, talk to your buddy in the locker room, buy some gear in the pro shop…..that is just incredibly rude.
  14. Seems like some things never change. They just cannot get their act together with staffing and the guest experience. I’ve heard the hotel and food has improved, but the caddie ranks there are just not very good. It’s too bad since Streamsong is one of a very small number of public courses I’d play again in Florida.
  15. Nothing wrong with playing multiple balls to practice on the course, but I only do that if I’m playing solo in off hours. Great way to practice, but has to be solo when no one else is out there. Agreed it’s not right to do that any other time. If I’m paired up, no way, and if in a foursome….come on now, no, that is not the time to practice!
  16. For sure. The only golf events I make some effort to watch live are The Masters and The Open. Or The British Open, whatever term you want to use. (The debate about that is pedantic, worn out, and tired IMO.)
  17. Have seen this here and there the last couple of years. It is really weird. Don’t see it at my place though. We don’t have an official phone ban, but we have an effective practical ban — most of the course has no service.
  18. I don’t bet with strangers. That’s unwise, too many baggers out there and I work too hard for my money, no one gave me 💩. If we know each other, I’m pretty comfortable betting on myself! Your approach with the missus is the right one. Situational awareness. 👍🏼
  19. Lawd I’ve read some dumb stuff on the interwebs….that is next level stupidity.
  20. Dodged the storms today, got a quick 18 in. After driving 425 miles Thursday then another 425 yesterday, I wanted to walk but didn’t have the juice with ambient of 90F and humidity over 70%. For the record, I used to love road trips. Not now. Since my accident I don’t enjoy drives over about 150 miles at all, but no choice on this one. 🙂 Great drive, acceptable 5w, and a really good PW on our long #6 here. I thought it was TIGHT, I was wrong, it was more like 8’. Zoom in and you’ll see it. Missed the putt. Here is 18, didn’t hit my drive well which makes this shot much harder. See the clubhouse tight to the left and the drop off to the right? Both are terrible places to be….I am 185 here so I’m hitting 7w at the cart in the distance there and trying to cut it a bit. I hooked it. 😡 This ain’t no good at all.
  21. Young gal working our halfway house today. I’m playing so great 🙄 I order a double Beam on the rocks. “Now, you know you’re gonna have to teach me how to make that.” 🤔 😂
  22. Oh, most excellent thanks. Let me know what you need to get for them. My lil bro is not so little, he’s tall and has never once swung a club and is asking for help to get started. 👍🏼
  23. Man. Putting together a very basic set for a totally new player used to be easy. My brother’s 8 year old has started playing, taking lessons, and my brother wants to learn the basics so he can play with him. Second Swing looks to be close to a monopoly now, and their prices suck!
