The Links Lounge (*** NO POLITICS/RELIGION/LIV ***)
mshills replied to touch's topic in The 19th Hole
What keeps me to the edibles and not going very often to the jar of the loudest loud I’ve ever had on hand is I have this hang up about my kids. I have no problem with them seeing me drink alcohol, and I’m teaching #1 how to cook with it, which means sampling before cooking. I know full well I’m a very relaxed drunk, so I’ve never had an issue with my boys seeing me get a little bit loose on brown liquor. I’ve never been hammered in front of them and never will. But I feel differently about them seeing me light a joint and burn down a cloud in front of them. For whatever reason, I just don’t need them to see that, so I pick and choose the times when smoke occurs. -

As long as I’m not toking in my car, which I can’t / won’t do anyhow, ZFG blazing up a thick cloud on my deck, patio, or on the course. Chance of an overzealous Johnnie Law Dawg cramping my style is approaching absolute zero. Edibles reduce this chance to zero. -

Thank you. Booze that gets many guys to fight, beat their wives and kids? No problem! Some loud that gets me to stay up too late listening to music and looking for patterns in the trees overlooking my house? Oh no that’s the devils lettuce, can’t have that! 😡 -

Slight envy here! I’ve tried, believe me, and I just can’t play good golf. But maybe my stuff is too loud…I’ll make another attempt and report back. 😁 -

My experience is high-end daily fee (public) or resort courses often have far more rules than many privates. There are some privates that basically have no rules at all! Hey, it all depends on what the membership wants. Back to this situation, look, you want weed so loud you’ll have the clouds spelling out words, faces in the trees talking to you, and the cup moving around at your club, I actually don’t have a problem with that, but it better be during off hours when the course is not busy. Getting that FUBAR in an event is not cool. At least the weed doesn’t make people want to fight. -

Yes, Beethoven please. But don’t come weak with that tired, played out, “complete” stuff. Unfinished symphonies only, let’s go! -

Very sorry. 😢 People who are important to you….tell them! If you suspect someone important to you is not OK….ask them. If you know someone important to you is not OK….help them get help! You usually don’t get a second chance on these things. Again….terribly sorry this happened. 😢 -

I’m a little more loose on a couple of those things. I used to be die-hard anti-music, but I’ve changed my tune 😉. Here’s my decision tree on that one. Playing in a group, event, or organized competitive game at prime time? I don’t like music and I have gotten over my reluctance to reject it. At my place we have no hard prohibition on music, but in this scenario it doesn’t come up often. The other members always ask and I’m fine saying no thank you. Playing in a group or non competitive event in off hours? I still won’t offer it, but if someone asks (which at my place they always ask) again, I’m honest and I’ll ask “That totally depends on the DJ. What do you have in mind?” I am ok rejecting music I don’t like. My taste is very wide but what I don’t like I REALLY DON’T LIKE. Playing with a buddy with similar tastes or with the missus? I probably play music 50% of the time. Never thought I’d get to like it….but surprisingly, I do. The shirt tuck….if someone thought they just had to instruct me to tuck mine in when I’ve just carried my bag up the big hill after #6, they won’t like my response much. No one would ever do that at our place — we have plenty of de jure rules, but very few de facto. No one really cares as our club culture is a.) relaxed and b.) we don’t have the types where you give an inch and they take a mile. It’s just not a big deal. I tuck my shirt in before I get to the #1 box but if it happens to come untucked the 25th time I set my bag down, pick it back up, and scale a hill, no one is bothered by it. -
Right Hand, Right Eye Dominant Golfers

Hey man, if you just get your setup nailed, the rest of hitting a shot just happens, falls into place, happens naturally. Manifest it. Speak it into existence! Now where’s that trash can? -

You will definitely get a lot of… How dare they? They should have been DQ’d. No, the member should be suspended from the club. Actually, revoke his membership. Forget that, just punch him in the mouth. …type “advice” if you post this anywhere other than this friendly corner of WRX. -

Very interesting thread, and gives me a lot to think about despite my tongue in cheek about being so right hand dominant to the point of exclusivity. I learned my left eye dominance when I was much younger and learning to shoot. It’s important with a shotgun, and critical to understand with a bow or a rifle. I’ve always been aware of my strong L eye dominance in putting, especially in alignment, using an intermediate target, and using a line on the ball. I’ve never thought about it the same way in the golf swing, but this thread gives me something to think on for sure. -

Left eye dominant. VERY VERY right hand dominant. 😁 -
Lot of selective memory in here. Tiger unquestionably had many memorable huge shots that were exciting. But his interviews were horrible until post-injuries, when he’s let his guard down and is totally different than he was as Peak Tiger. In between those memorable huge shots, he did not engage the galleries. He did not “play fiery” whatever the heck that means. He was single-minded in focus and concentration. That is a huge part of what made him great, and if you think he was out there fist pumping, raising the roof, or riding a bull down the fairway, you didn’t watch Tiger at his peak. I don’t know what to think about the posts that Scheffler owes the gallery something when he is retrieving his ball from the cup or that he somehow was obligated to stay in Belfast to party. That’s just weird. If you travel for business, you know…at a certain point you don’t care where you are, let’s get home.

Yooooooo…..👎🏼 what has been read cannot be unread! -
That 135 yard approach he just hit, right over his target from the first cut, with the ball below his feet and can’t miss short or right, so he goes right over it with cut spin so it lands soft 18’ beyond the hole. Sheesh, that is some ball striking.

Yes, the R&A should push that button on their weather machine.
-
British still a very close second to the Masters for me just in terms of the watch. I still think the British is the greatest pure golfing test. To your point when the weather is perfect, it loses something since this is a sport we play outdoors and the weather should be a factor.

100%. High ball speed. Great distance control. Really good short game. Really good putter. Win a lot with that formula.
-
Scheffler is stepping on throats. He’s just not going to let anyone have a chance here. Weather forecast at some point was for terrible conditions today, but does not look like that is going to happen. I would not want to try predicting weather on that part of the globe!

The wires were pretty low and quite close to an elevated tee box, in between the box and the start of the fairway. So it was a pretty bad setup. I reckon the wires were there before the course, and there’s no reason the tee shouldn’t have been lowered or moved at some point. By the time the course opened to the public it was operated on a total shoestring budget so it wasn’t going to happen then. I never hit them but numerous playing partners did. Loud and pretty alarming sound! -

There was a place I used to love playing north of ATL — very thick power lines directly in the line of fire on #3 tee and the craziest local rule I’ve ever seen. OB if your ball hit the wires. Seriously??? Lanier Golf Club….it was private for most of its history and had real players who loved to gamble as I’m told. When I stopped 100% work travel in 2000, the members had sold the club and it was in limbo, supposed to be developed for housing but a small group of existing homeowners around the perimeter filed suit and somehow it stayed open as a daily fee for quite a while. What a great layout that was, other than the wires and the 🌰 🥜 local rule. It has long since closed for good and I’m sure there are 250 starter homes there now. -
I have always liked Phil. I simply love watching him play golf. I can count on one hand the number of guys I actively root against. Overall all I care about is if they are entertaining to watch….Phil has always been that and always will be.
