Plus….a Cayman is a totally great year round daily even in our climate with a set of snows, and I think I can redneck engineer my clubs to fit. That’s what I have to be sure of.

42-43 today. Our par is 38-34, played pretty well. Hit 12 fairways, that’s a sweet deal there! Front could have been much better. I made two bad bogeys and a dumb double on the three par 5s on our front. But I also made my first deuce on #4….that hole can play as much as 235 😳 from the member tees. Today the tees were up, I had 171 to a back pin on a crazy soft green after downpours all day yesterday and last night. Hit a great 9w about 25 feet left of the hole and knew it would feed down. It fed all right, ended up tight. 👍🏼

Oh man, yes, both. Great spots. Haven’t thought about those places for a while! I walked to work and saw Justice Thomas just about every morning. We were on the same schedule, I walked by the secured parking garage entrance he was driving into. He got to recognizing me, and I (of course) him. He drove a black on black Vette with Virginia plates.

Nice spots! Spent a good bit of time around Greensboro circa 2000. Love that area. I am a UGA anti-fan….but I concede, Athens is great. I have a really good friend in Columbus, GA and have played a lot of golf with him at CCC and Green Island when he changed clubs. Both are superb, and Columbus is really cool too after some revitalization efforts in the early ‘00s. My office is in Blue Bell now, so I’m over there about once a quarter.

Been quietly looking for a Cayman, man they are thin on the ground preowned. Maybe better to look in winter, not sure, or if there just aren’t that many out there. Challenge brick 🧱 time. So in an event I played, nowhere near contention. Drove my ball into gnarly waste area, part desert, part former pond and dry stream. Hole 36, final day of the event. Get to my ball, it’s in the former stream bed. Not marked as a penalty area. There are rocks everywhere but what seems like dry earth around my ball. I decide on the shot but I want to be sure one shot does not put me out of commission for a year, so I push down on the earth about 3-4” behind my ball. I figure that is close enough to see if there is a rock under the ball but not improving my lie since I’m in the damn desert and there is no grass! I am more concerned about directly under or in front of the ball so I hit an uncommitted shot, thin. Immediately after, rules official approaches. We need to talk. Aright. Be careful about improving your lie there. Well, since I didn’t improve my lie there is nothing to talk about. I see it differently. You pushed down and improved your lie. Is that a fact? Pushed what down?? Hard ground??? Be careful. We don’t want a problem here now do we? That was out of order IMO. Now I stop and walk straight toward him. If you want to call a penalty, call the penalty. Let’s go! Otherwise let me finish. Wrong time and place since I’m telling you I didn’t, right? Concentration was shot at this point…I was upset, didn’t finish well, and didn’t handle the situation well. This is why I’m generally sympathetic to the player, in this case, Lowry. He said he didn’t move it and didn’t see it move, and in this sport, we believe the player.

Nah. The negative ones are remembered. People tend to forget the changes that have made things more convenient / easier / better / cheaper.

I said no such thing and you know it, so I’m not sure what warranted your coming at me hard. Perhaps you replied to the wrong post. All I said is everyone using a shared facility needs situational awareness. Don’t “reserve” a cup when it is busy. Don’t reserve a cup then leave the green with your stuff there. If it’s not busy, don’t insist on putting to a cup where someone is obviously working. Basic courtesy and Southern manners.

That penalty assessed to Lowry is pretty tough. Though on the video, it is clear the ball moved and it sure does look like he caused it to move. However, looking at Shane during the practice swing he was looking down range at his target and it appeared he never looked down at the ball. So, if he told the rules official he did not see it move, I have no reason to doubt him. Golf has this hoary old “gentleman’s game of honor” thing where we call penalties on ourselves if we saw it and no one else did, right? And the championship official asked him if he saw it move and he truthfully said “no.” Shouldn’t that be the end of it? No penalty? What am I missing? If the decision is already made, why ask the player at all and expect him to be some kind of martyr? I got sideways / upset with a rules official in an event last year on a similar situation…will explain after seeing some responses to this.

Work calendar opened up this afternoon and I wanted to get a late round going into the evening. One of my favorite things to do….even if I have to take a gas cart (we don’t let the electric carts out past a certain time so the cart guys don’t get stuck there late) or walk. But Mother Nature not having it today. We are getting ALL the rain this year after last summer’s drought.
